Airport as an extension of the city and how they can become an ‘urban turbine’, condensing activities and igniting innovation.

Questions:• how can the airport better integrate into the

city• how can the terminal better integrate into the

sequence of local relationships


There are two types of airports: destination airports and hubs

they don’t require airline offices, training centers and services

they need to be more seamless connected to the city they are associated with

As a privilege I personally carried out extensive research on behalf of Dorsch Consult on the growth of cities and geopolitical issues in relation to the site of the airport.

This work is continued at Cranfield University.


This rich variety of empirical research applies for a destination airport, in this case Khartoum.

Selecting the site for the new Khartoum airport we looked at other cities:
