Urban Calligraphy series – Sonia Gil

I am a Rio de Janeiro artist and architect. Cities are my inspiration.

My work process combines media, such as watercolor, acrylic and

collage, which I use in layers of digitalized colors and graphics to make

virtual constructions of very personal city spaces.

The Urban Calligraphy series aims to capture and redraw the urban

design of cities, making a digital impression of the most populated cities,

territories where the great challenges of the humam associated life and

new cultural production will take place. New “city prints”.

To look at the well known places from a personal perspective

helps you to rediscover the territory and yourself

The starting point was the stories and memories of a friend

who asked me to create a very personal map of Hamburg, a

city to where she for many years had travelled on work and

had learned to love. She told me about feelings and related

areas…stress, new discoveries, challenges…places that she

went to relax and hat are linked to great pleasure and nice

feelings.
