UR Potential What do we do UR Potential is a Community Interest Company which was launched in 2010 with a key aim to develop the capacity of local communities with

particular emphasis on children, young people and families to improve outcomes for children, young people and families, through volunteering

and development opportunities.

Provide research and consultancy service for communities, statutory services and the voluntary sector. We conduct community research and

workforce change management across the sector. We coordinate and organise community events inc marketing and publicity across the Region

for both statutory and voluntary organisations.

2. Youth Volunteering

Fylde Coast Be Involved is a youth volunteering project which targets 14 to 25 year old young people who are living on Fylde, Wyre and

Blackpool. (The Fylde Coast). The project enables young people to prepare to take up volunteering opportunities or makes volunteering more

accessible to young people, offering support where required based on individual need of the volunteer. FCBI provides supported volunteering

opportunities to those who may require additional support. We provide training for young people including, Moving into Volunteering accredited

course, ASDAN Community Volunteering Qualification, employability, health and safety, food hygiene, customer service etc, as well as support

to organisations who host young people. We have 3 Youth Action Teams(YAT) who each cover the 3 areas on the Fylde Coast. The YATS

support the youth worker to deliver Volunteer training and training in schools, colleges, peer mentoring accredited courses and basic youth

work/ accredited youth work courses. We support the Blackpool Volunteer Youth Forum and 5 youth led groups which provide a stepping stone

to building young people’s confidence and support them into volunteering: LGBT, Peer mentoring, Art, Girls Group and Mystery Shoppers.

Funding and projects Funding for our projects and training came from a number of diverse sources:

Commissioned services Lancashire County Council Young People’s Services

Commissioned 2 projects for NEET young people in Wyre and Fylde. In November 2011 we delivered 2 media project in partnership with DMC Media. The projects worked with diverse and hard to reach young people using media as tool to engage with and work alongside some very gifted, unique and inspiring young people. Each project designed, filmed, directed and edited their own DVD on an issue which had an impact on their community. The completed films were premiered together at The Odeon cinema with an audience of friends, family, youth workers and commissioners. The DVDs are today used in educational workshops. Some of the young people, involved in the DVD projects are now active members of Youth Action Teams and youth work training. We met the outcome for this commission and successfully gained further commissioned work for 2012-2014 for Wyre and Fylde. In August 2012 we commenced a further project engaging young people who were at risk of being NEET or who were NEET in Fylde. Working alongside FCWA. We also commence a part time project in Wyre under Fylde Coast Be Involved supporting young people into Volunteering.

Mentor and Addaction Street Talk Commissioned to train and induct 20 volunteers across Wyre and Fylde to engage with over 100 young people in delivering brief intervention to young people using the latest App and mobile technology. We exceeded pour targets and provide motivational interviewing and brief intervention to over 150 young people. Raising the profile of Young Addaction and increasing the capacity of volunteers as well as supporting young people in Wyre and Fylde.

Lancashire Drug and Alcohol Team (LDAAT) Commissioned through Wyre and Lancashire Children’s Trusts to deliver alcohol related youth projects to support the outcomes of both Trust’s action plans. We adapted the successful model of media as a too, and again working in partnership with DMC Media delivered 2 distinctly different projects to young people in Fylde and Wyre. The projects identified the impact alcohol has on a) the young person if parents are drinking and the negative stereotypes given to young people while b) the impact drinking has on you as a young person and the possible consequences. Both very powerful stories told by the groups with different mediums. Premiers were held in St Annes Island Cinema and Wyre Marine Hall. The audience consisted of family, friends, schools, Children Trust members, police and Fire service. Fylde Alcohol Strategy groups asked the Fylde group to sit as members on the group and be advisors.

We commenced the basic youthwork course in Fylde and Wyre which was very popular and supported the capacity of volunteers and the VCFS sector. We developed a model of delivery based on graduate and volunteer support and with some funding from Wyre and Community Foundation Merseyside we were able to continue the project across the 3 areas. On the 27th July 2012 we received amazing news that after 12 months of work we were awarded 5 year Big Lottery Reaching Communities funding for FCBI £199,333.00 for 3 project workers for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. We appointed 3 workers and the work is continuing with some excellent results!( See attached Social Impact report for snapshot May 2011 – June 2012). The Peer mentoring supported FCBI and we saw our first Mentee and mentor relationship commence with support from Vicky McMahon and Lewis Ames our graduate on placement.
