St Paul Baptist Church in Anderson recently hosted a workshop on “The Ministry of Ushering “The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Shirley Rosemond of Bethlehem Baptist church in Simpsonville, SC; who is the president of the Reedy River Baptist Association Usher Board. Mrs. Rosemond believes that ushers are “God’s Angels’ whose mission it is to “meet and greet every visitor to God’s house and make them feel welcome’. She stresses that there is a method and an appropriate manner to greet members and guests and that ushers have a responsibility to not only be in proper uniform from head to toe but that hygiene is very important and should never be overlooked. Even one’s breath should be fresh when greeting visitors to God’s house to make a proper impression. She says that the way that members and guests are treated can set the tone for the whole service and has as much importance as the text selected by the speaker.

The church usher may be the only individual to make direct contact with

persons during their attendance at a service. Preachers, teachers and musicians minister to people in groups while ushers only minister to people as individuals.

According to Wilson’s’ Ushers Guide’ “A sp i r i t - d i r e c t e d wor d o f encouragement, reassurance or kindness may be the most significant ministry some people receive in their entire church attendance experience”. Only a few can linger after service to meet the Pastor, ask questions of teachers or talk with musicians but everyone may have a first-hand encounter with the ministry of a good usher.

The Usher is often the first official representative of Jesus Christ seen by people entering God’s house. The attitude which the usher communicates to church members and friends helps set the spiritual tone for everyone. As an official representative of the church and of Jesus Christ the usher has an enormous obligation in helping lead people into readiness for learning, worship and evangelism.

After Being Sued for Publicly Displaying the Ten Commandments, Pa Pastor Keeps on Building Monuments

By Staff in Christian News

across the country. Members of the community have shown support for the school district and for the monument by posting signs in their yards. They have also hosted gatherings around the monument to show their solidarity.

President of the school board, Jon Detwiler said that many people have called him on the phone to show their support for the statue. He added that he didn’t think it was a bad thing to have the school children reading the Ten Commandments.

Marietta has reportedly purchased 14 of the Ten Commandments monuments and has already dedicated three of them in the community. He is now in the process of deciding where to place his next monument, after supporters throughout the region have expressed their wishes to also have a monument for the public to see. According to Marietta, they have received requests from 52 different locations that want to display a Ten Commandments monument on their property. He added that the places that requested the monuments first would be first served.

Marietta went on to say that “Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn, a Quaker who was in prison in England three times because of his religion, and came to this country for religious freedom.” He continued “People should be able to hold onto their religious morals and values without the threat of being thrown into jail. We don’t want to force the Ten Commandments monuments on anyone, but we don’t want them taken away from the public eye.”

Pastor Ewing Marietta of Liberty Baptist Church is installing Ten Commandment monuments throughout the Connellsville, Pa community and the surrounding areas despite a lawsuit filed against him by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF).

This is Marietta’s response to the atheist group FFRF after they filed a lawsuit against him last year for putting up a Ten Commandments monument at a local junior school.

After the FFRF sued the Connellsville School District last year for allowing a Ten Commandments monument on school property, Marietta set up the “Thou Shall Not Move” movement in an effort to show support for the school district. The lawsuit against the School District had been filed by the FFRF on behalf of a woman and her daughter who said that they were disturbed by the presence of the monument.

The FFRF wrote in its complaint that the public school district had no right to inflict religion on its captive audience of students at the school. They also had no right to give instructions as to which god to have, how many gods to have or if they should have any gods at all.

The statue, which includes an inscription of the Ten Commandments along with the figure of an eagle, an American flag and two stars of David was donated by the Fraternal Order of Eagles in 1957. The statue was donated with the hope of providing troubled youth with a common set of moral standards by which to govern their actions. Similar monuments were distributed to other school districts

“A man of worship must keep his ear close to the Voice of God.” Elder David allows the Holy Spirit to the lead worship services at Grace Cathedral, not a church program or bulletin. David was

born musically gifted and has been playing instruments since he was two years old. In addition to being gifted on the organ and keyboards, he plays drums, the bass and lead guitar. David has been the minister of music for Grace Cathedral Ministries (both Sumter & Greenville) for a total of 20 years. He is a graduate of Morris College with a major in Christian Education. A native of Loraine, Ohio, he and his wife, Tara of 11 years now reside in Sumter, SC. David is so committed to God, his personal ministry, and the ministry of Grace Cathedral that he travels back and forth twice a week from Sumter. Favorite Scripture: Psalm 27

Elder David A. Smith Minister of Music, Grace Cathedral

Ministries, Greenville, SC

Apostle Smith is the Pastor & Founder of Grace Cathedral Ministries in Sumter & Greenville, South Carolina and the Founder of Grace Cathedral Christian Fellowship Incorporated. He is a man

after “God’s own heart” and is truly committed to “Reaching the Lost at any Cost”. He is married to Violet E. Smith and parents of Christopher and TaCara Levon Smith.

He is ‘One Sent’ to provide a ‘real’ look at the world and how we can live right now on earth. Ministering to those who thirst for daily functionality, he gives encouragement to all through God’s Word. Often quoting John 12:32, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me”, he believes that you should let your light shine so that when people see your light shining they will come into the light.

Apostle Sammy Smith Pastor & Founder

Grace Cathedral Ministries Greenville, SC

Michael C. Hamilton was born and raised in Greenville, SC and educated in the Greenville County school district. He received his Diploma in Theology at the American Baptist College of Nashville, TN and after

serving ten years as the associate pastor of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, he became the pastor at Grace Cathedral Ministries. Under the leadership of Apostle Sammy C. Smith, Michael embraces the overall mission of the ministry which is “reaching the lost at any cost” by equipping the ministry gifts to advance the kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven. He is happily married to Suzzette Foster Ham-ilton and has one son, Christopher, and 3 daughters: Teneka, Shereka and Lashanda; and three grandchildren: Ashleigh, Kayleigh and Asheton. Favorite Scripture: Ephesians 3:20

Pastor Michael C. Hamilton Pastor, Grace Cathedral Ministries

In the left hand corner of the ring, we have Lucifer a world renowned, fighter who once held a championship title. But since his dismissal from Heaven, he has been trying to win daily fights, “right season” fights, fights for freedom of his opponents (believers of Christ), but still has not conquered them. He uses every resource known to attack his opponents. Standing on the right hand side of the ring, dancing back and forth, with purple and gold boxing gloves, matching shorts, we have Apostle Sammy C. Smith, the Founder and Chief Apostle of the

Grace Cathedral Christian Fellowship, Inc. (headquartered in Greenville, SC.), who is ready and well-equipped quoting his favorite scripture, “If God be for us, who can be against us?”

Apostle Smith had entered the ring for the last time to battle with Satan, for this championship title, “The Grace Level in God”. The two opponents are in the ring and Satan comes to the center and gives a hard upper cut to the circulatory and vascular system of Apostle Smith and then throws a quick, but strong right hook just before the Offertory Appeal, gracefully falling to the floor, as he says “God is merciful”.

It is Sunday, August 25 and the congregation is going wild, sending out war cries, pacing to and fro proclaiming victory. Elder David Smith is ministering music of triumphancy calling on the heavenly angels, as the saints go into immediate battle for their “gift” of the house. Women were wailing, mothers of the church praying, soldiers of Grace’s army positioning themselves ready for the next order coming from second in command, Pastor Michael Hamilton. Apostle Smith had just completed a prayer of healing over the house against every disease, ailment, sickness, depression, every physical problem that would hinder the saints of

THE FIGHT FOR LIFE! by Misty Dilliard

God from their true purpose and calling in life! In order for the church to be a place of healing and restoration (its true definition) all of these conditions had to be removed, so that the true healing power can reside in this house of God.

Apostle Smith was carried out of the ring to the local hospital where tests and care was administered. In less than eight hours, Apostle Sammy C. Smith had returned home with positive test results, no damage and also brought life to the ER department. Once again, Satan was defeated and lost THE FIGHT! He thought he was going to usurp the plan God has given to Apostle Smith to conquer the Upstate. God has given him an assignment that is so colossal, Satan had to try one more time to attack his physical body, but to no avail. We bless God and Praise Him for this strategic victory!!!

Every prize fighter has one thing in common – a manager. A man who acts upon his fighter’s behalf, makes arrangements according to his plan, manages his business affairs to achieve the set goals that have been established. Just like in ministry, every “gift” of the house has to have a manager or Pastor if you will. One who has to have a humble spirit and can converse and interact with all people in

the congregation. He has to take hits just like the fighter and still remain strong, in a d d i t i o n t o holding up the arms of the champion.

A pastor of the house when operating in the Apostolic mantle has a double assignment (one given by God and one given by the Apostle). But the pastor is so in tuned with the “gift” of the house, (even in the Apostle’s absence); he is still operating under his auspices and will reveal to their people the same message, just using a different format. That is a divine connection and one that is ordained by God. This is special gift that only comes from God when two men of God can come together and operate with each other and still relay the same revelatory message to the sheep; Moses and Joshua are prime examples. Just like in the boxing match, behind the scenes the manager will make all of the arrangements with the promoters, venues, the staff etc., but in the end they both win and reap a great reward. At Grace Cathedral Ministries of Greenville, SC, this kind of team spirit operates here!

Apostle Alvin Deal Faith Christian Center Church

Greenwood, SC

Apostle Alvin Deal, a native of Greenwood, SC, was called to preach God’s word at the age of 22. He was called to pastor his first church at age 23. Within the next year God called him to another church while he was still

pastor at the initial church. The anointed words of God took Apostle Deal’s ministry from level to level. Apostle Alvin Deal is presently the founder and senior pastor of the Faith Christian Center Church in Greenwood, SC. Apostle Deal is a community activist that is deeply involved in his community and has worked with various civic, governmental and religious organizations. Apostle Deal is married to the former Georgia Heyward. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Apostle Deal walks by faith not by sight and delivers the radical word of God.

A country preacher at heart, “JJ”, as he is better known throughout the region, pastored for 43 years in the AME church. He was a circuit preacher from 1963 – 1973 where he preached in over 15 different churches and built

Long Cane AME and Rocky River AME into station churches. Pastor Robinson not only served the Christian community as a minister, but he also severed the public. A former president of the Abbeville County NAACP and three term councilmember of the Abbeville City Council, “JJ” was the first black to serve on the Abbeville Housing Authority and Housing Board of Appeals. He obtained an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Faith College in Birmingham, AL, and is truly a servant of the people. Pastor Robinson’s favorite scripture is Matthew 4:19.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 19, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- National Back to Church Sunday® 2013 broke records again this year when an estimated 3 million people attended a Back to Church Sunday event last weekend, believed to be the highest attendance on record for the event. The effort had already broken records for numbers of participating churches. A total of 21,491 churches from all 50 states enrolled in 2013, 8,339 more churches than the prior year, representing an increase of more than 63 percent.

“The campaign reinvigorated and encouraged our members to invite

people to church,” reported First Baptist Penn Hills, Pa., in a post-event survey. “It was a great success,” was the comment from Auburn Baptist Church, Christiansburg, Va. “Our church was full, our classes were full of children and our parking lot was overflowing.”

Participating churches reported an average 31 percent increase in attendance, and 35 percent of responding churches said they had new visitors making decisions to receive Christ or to rededicate their lives. “This campaign generated a spark and forced our congregation to reach out in a way that I have not seen in many years. This is a wonderful campaign,” reported Southern Heights Christian Church, Anderson, Ind.

Back to Church Sunday, a nationwide movement, seeks to welcome Americans back to church and to encourage church members to invite others to attend. Eighty-four percent of responding churches reported that having a special day motivated their

Fifth Annual National Back to Church Sunday Breaks Records for Participation

members to invite family and friends. “It was a huge success and helped the church understand the importance of inviting people as well as being pre-pared for guests when they arrive,” Norwood Heights Baptist Church, Palestine, Texas, reflected.

In addition, 96 percent of responding churches said they’d participate in Back to Church Sunday again. “We love Back to Church Sunday,” Bethel Christian Center, Tinton Falls, N.J. commented. “It’s a great way to share God’s love and get people to come back to him.”

National Back to Church Sunday is the largest annual community-based church outreach effort in the nation. The campaign empowers churches and church members with the tools they need to welcome their neighbors, friends and loved ones back to church, while providing an easy way for everyone in the community to find a welcoming church.

It started as a result of survey research that indicated 82% of people said they would attend church if someone they knew invited them, but only 2% of church members were inviting people to come with them to their church.

More information is available at http://www.backtochurch.com, where churches can sign up now for Back to Church Sunday, scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2014. In coming months additional information about plans for the 2014 event will be added. Churches are posting their own comments and results on the Back to Church Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/backtochurch) and there is also information available on the Back to Church You Tube Channel.

“Don’t let another Back To Church Sunday pass you by,” concluded Steep Falls Baptist Church, Steep Falls, Maine. “It is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to the unchurched and make them feel loved and accepted.”

The Spiritual Messenger would like to take this opportunity to encourage and invite our readership and various church families to join in the Back to Church campaign each and every Sunday. During the next several months, go out and welcome your family , fr iends, neighbors or co-workers to visit your house of worship and fellowship with any of these fine Men of Worship.

Kirk Franklin, probably one of gospel music’s biggest stars, is launching a new r e c o r d l a b e l w i t h S o n y C o r p o r a t i o n ’ s RCA Records called “Fo Yo Soul” and he hopes that his popularity will increase sales of CD’s.

Although most types of music come and go, gospel music sales have held steady over the years and now Franklin is hoping to capture the younger and more secular market.

Following his successful arena tour last year, Franklin wants to try and boost his mainstream visibility and by launching this new record label, he is hoping to do just that. He will also be chairman and chief executive of the new “Fo Yo Soul” record label.

Franklin also made a deal this year with Sirius XM Radio Inc. to take over their gospel channel and he was also enlisted to revamp the House of Blues nightclub chain and its signature gospel brunch by Live Nation Entertainment Inc.

According to Franklin, his experience in church will help the new record label because “It’s kind of hard if you have people running a label that don’t go to church. You don’t know what the choirs are singing,” he said.

Gospel Star Kirk Franklin Goes Secular? By Nigel Boys in Christian News

Franklin is already the host of the long-running gospel-talent show “Sunday Best” and now he will put mainstream artists through a “gospel boot camp” to ease their financial and spiritual troubles in a new reality show for Via-com Inc.’s BET Networks.

According to Nielsen SoundScan (the official method of tracking sales of music and music video products throughout the U.S. and Canada), almost 5.4 million gospel albums were sold in the U.S. last year with about 75 percent of those sales being on CD.

Gospel Album sales showed a slight increase from 2008 whereas album sales from all genres dropped from 486 million in 2008 to 316 million last year, according to SounScan figures.

Although gospel fans tend to be slightly older than the average music buyer,

they have recently become surprisingly attractive to the music industry because they tend to support participatory live shows and physical products.

Both the classical music and jazz music industry are bigger than the gospel music industry but Franklin believes that gospel music can do even better if he widens its scope to include secular pop culture.

In order to attract new talent, fans and corporate sponsorship, Franklin intends to use his live music venues to promote the new gospel music along with satellite radio channels and his new record label.

CHURCH LISTINGS

According to Pew, only 52 percent of those who regularly attend church at least once a week say that their pastor contributes “a lot” to society and 10 percent say that their ministers contribute “nothing at all” or “not very much.” Other research byGallupseems to agree with the Pew study and found that there are seven people who Americans trust more than their pastor and a Barna research said that Ameri-cans are less influenced by their pastor than they are by professional athletes.

TheGallupresearch poll shows that there were seven occupations that Americans think contribute more to society than pastors do and they included: Nurses, who were at the top of the list, Phar-macists, Medical doctors, Engineers, Dentists, Police officers and College teachers. However, even though Barack Obama is once again at the top of Gallup’s “Most Admired Man” list, Billy Graham has appeared 56 times since 1955, more than any other man. Following Graham is Ronald Regan with 31 appearances on the top 10 list. On Gallup’s 2012 list, after Obama, second place went to Nelson Mandela

According to a new Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, less than 40 percent of Americans think that their pastor contributes anything much to society and 18 percent of those surveyed think that pastors contribute absolutely nothing at all. The survey also showed that only 37 percent of those who took part in the survey think that their pastor contributes “a lot” to society or the American way of life and the figures show that nothing has changed much from when Pew last did this survey in 2009. Although the clergy ranked higher than artists, journalists, business executives and lawyers, they ranked lower in public esteem than those in the military, teachers, medical doctors, scientists and engineers.

His latest re-lease, “Spiritual battles of the Mind’ is due for release in mid-October and a special Christmas project is due for release in November. This young man seeks to bring youth to Christ through his music because he knows that bullying and peer pressure pose a great danger to youth and he only wants to make things better for everybody

When he was a child Cam did not speak very much until he was about three or four years old and he was very shy. He is the middle child of Minister Sharon Owens Hunter, Pastor of the Faith Center in Piedmont, SC. He is one of four children raised by the single mother. Choirboy made up his mind at an early age that he wanted to minister to the youth and spread the good news about the gospel in song. Choirboy is scheduled to take part in a youth panel in Tupelo Mississippi in early September. He was named “Best New artist of the year for 2013 during a local gospel music competition in the

According to Barna, college graduates and those who make more than $60,000 per annum find pro athletes the most influential while weekly church goers and those who earn less than $40,000 think faith leaders are more influential.

exactly fitting of a preacher’s wife, but Good seems defiant in believing that she can dress and act however she wants and that it doesn’t make her any less holy than anyone else. If that’s true, then does that mean that an adult film star can also say they have as good of a connection to God as anyone else? Good recently spoke about the issue, saying that she thinks that the constraints of the church are simply unfair. Good appears to believe that God is the one who is telling her to wear the outfits that she puts on in public, and that it can’t be anything else. “Some people feel like I should wear a turtleneck or something but that’s not who I am. If that’s not what God tells me to do then I’m not going to do that to make other people comfort-able,” she said during an interview on Vlad TV.

Good also says that she represents young women who are being misjudged for the way they dress. She also says that she is building God’s kingdom, even when she is half-naked.

Meagan Good is a beautiful, young actress with a lot to say. She’s also at what scientists consider to be a woman’s s-xual peak. She is now stuck with the challenge of trying to balance her natural appeal to men with her recent marriage to pastor DeVon Franklin. Good caused a lot of controversy when she rolled into the BET Awards wearing an outfit that looked like it was picked out by Lil Kim’s dirty older sister: Her body parts were in full display, with the dress going down to her navel.

Some thought that her outfit was not
