Our many customers who use UVDS debris boxes containing mixed waste from construction projects or large commercial or industrial can now be assured that their mixed material will pass through the processing facility and achieve at least a 60% diversion from the disposal site. Many construction and industrial projects have limited space for several “separated” drop boxes on site, nor do they wish to incur or pass on the costly man-hours it takes to separate these heavy materials. Our new facility is designed to handle this mixed construction and demolition debris in the simplest and most cost efficient way. It’s a giant bin for wood, metal, glass, asphalt and concrete! Just put it in the bin and we’ll sort it out! Here are just a few items that will be given a new lease on life: 1. The wood products are used to help make our soil mixes. Other parts of the ground wood will be transported to a co-generation plant that will develop electricity. 2. Gypsum wallboard will be ground, screened and used as an additive for many soil mixes for both landscaping and agriculture. 3. Scrap metals large and small will be melted down making rebar for construction project and other steel products. 4. Concrete, rock and soil will all be separated, ground and used for road base and back filling as pipe liner. It is always nice to know that every possible means has been exercised in achieving a maximum recycling effort. is program will allow for these materials to go on to a second, third, fourth or maybe even fifth life! School tours inspire Kids to take action

For the past 9 years our St. Helena Primary School first graders have enjoyed the opportunity to visit the recycling facility on Whitehall Lane. This has had a tremendous impact on their learning about the importance of our natural resources and recycling. If it weren’t for these field trips our students would not have the opportunity to see what happens to materials that they put into the blue, recycling bins at school and at home. After visiting the center children are inspired to take action and become more responsible citizens.Thank you for helping us to teach our students about recycling. We look forward to our experience each year.Sincerely,Angie Bond, Michelle Parker, Robin Robert, Joan Spitler1st grade teachers-St. Helena Primary School

Funding for Private clean-Up activities

inUpValleyNapaCountyWaterWaysAvailable

The Department of environmental Management is offering a coupon which will allow debris removed from creek clean-ups to be disposed of for free at Clover Flat Landfill. This is a Napa County Pilot Program supported by UVDS and the Up Valley Waste Management Agency to encourage private clean-up activities. This program is for creeks polluted by windblown debris and illegally dumped refuse within the UVDS service area. Funding is limited and project approval will be evaluated based on those projects that are deemed to be most environmentally beneficial and cost effective. If your service club or neighborhood would like to receive an application or more information please contact the Department of Environmental Management at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled clean up at 253-4471.
