the PRESIDENTS RAMBLINGS Greetings All, Hopefully everyone is having a good winter (it won't last forever for those not a fan). Something that has been in the works for a while is done. We have a new website! The old site is gone and the new one is http://mainewoodcarvers.com Check it out, there is currently a mix of the old and the new with some new features and more to come.. The site is a work in progress but is easy to use and change and much less costly than the old. The Chapter pages now have a map of the Chapter location and a direct link to the Chapter Facebook page for those who have one. The Chapter pages are fairly empty right now. If any Chapter has any information or pictures they would like to have added to their page, please email them to me and they will be added. The Member profiles section could also use some additions. If you would like a profile on the page just email me some carving pictures and a brief write up on who you are and what you do. ( I have been asked why some member profiles are no longer on the web page. To have a Member profile one needs to be a Member). If any Members have a web page and would like to be included in the Members Links section, please send the info to me, some are already there. I also need more carving photos for the gallery on the home page. I would like to get a wide variety of carvings, wood burnings, bark houses etc. If you have photos of you work, email them to me and they will be placed in the carving gallery. The Ballot for the upcoming election will be out shortly. It would be nice to see more names on the ballot but we do have a good group of Members who volunteered to run for office. Thank you for stepping up. The date and location of the upcoming Board meeting is listed on the calendar. We need to have a quorum of Board members present at the meeting, Officers and Chapter Representatives to take any action on the trailer issue. Please plan on attending. Bob Grimm President MWCA

MWCA CHAPTER REPORTS
The Coastal Carvers held their Christmas Party at the Wades. The weather cooperated this time and a good time was had by all. 22 were in attendance. The food and fellowship was wonderful. Bev was the winner of the candy game. Many thanks to all the carvers for the generous gift given to Barbara and Jim. We really enjoy having each one of you come. Next month there will be an auction on the 25th of Feb. for our meeting. Many, many tools etc. to be purchased. Kathy Webster has the details. Come and bring a friend. See you then. Poland Springs Carvers The Tale of the 21 January 2017 meeting of the Poland Spring Carvers President Robert Grimm called the meeting of the official cabinet of the Poland Spring Carvers to order at 1:35pm.
The Secretary’s tale was read (loudly, for the benefit of Chuck Friis) from a copy graciously provided by Bernadette Hodgkins. Moved to approve, seconded, and carried. The Treasurer’s report shows that we have money. Moved to approve, seconded, and carried.
There being no OLD BIZ, President Grimm moved to deal with NEW BIZ. This being the first BIZINESS meeting of the new year, it was time to conduct a primary to select new officers. The result of the primary was as follows:
President: Robert Grimm
Vice-President: Chuck Perry (pending his agreement to serve)
Treasurer: James Irish
Secretary: to be determined
Nominations were declared closed; election will come at the BIZINESS meeting in February to provide for a suitable period for campaigning (for and against). Street demonstrations were preemptively declared to be inappropriate and counter-productive; photo ID issued by the Maine Wood Carvers Association will be required before an individual is permitted to cast a ballot (and the cast cannot be violently aimed at anything other than the ballot box!).
We were reminded of the upcoming MWCA Board of Directors meeting set for 25 February 2017, at the Ricker Memorial Library. The main item of discussion and decision making will be the As-sociation trailer.
Wayne Robbins will be offering a workshop on the carving of a dolphin or a hump-backed whale at his workshop in Bath (Maine) on 1-2 April. There is a limit of 6-8 participants, who must register before 15 March; the cost is $50 for MWCA members, $65 for non-members. Jim Irish inquired about the interest in doing another social gathering of the MWCA, along the lines of the gathering last summer at Reid State Park. In the discussion other potential locations were mentioned. In the memory of the secretary, no final decision was made.
Bernadette Hodgkins quietly and modestly offered to serve as Secretary. Her offer was gratefully accepted.
(Norm Devonshire has volunteered to be Secretary for the Poland Spring Carvers. I will fill in for him when he can’t be there. BH)
Debate lulled about 2:15pm, and the President declared the meeting recessed until next month.
The tale ends.
Respectfully submitted, Stanley Tanner, Lame Duck Secretary (quack, quack, quack...)

On the Border Carvers Submitted by Phyllis Cote
We are still hibernating here in the northern county, but interest in carving is gaining a lit-
tle with several new interested beginners.
One of the new men wants to do strictly birds, but most of the new women have a variety of items to do in the future as they gain more experience.
Charlie an ex-marine is carving his own veterans cane with some help and this week will turn the shaft he laminated last week.
Jack has a mallard he has completed carving and will get to painting it this week.
Hal is doing a small loon; one of which Cathy Webster donated to our club.
Diane has already done two of them as Christmas presents.
I have 3 new ladies in my classes and hopefully they will join the club soon.
We are all busy with individual projects and are looking forward to spring.
My brother Tom came down with another repair project and also to collect some wood. I am sure we will see in this months newsletter what top of Maine club is into.

On Saturday, February 25 at Jim Wade's shop at 68 Walpole Meeting
House road in Walpole, ME (near Damariscotta) at 1p.m. There will be an
auction of Gerry Vigneault’s carving things. It is a various assortment of
castings (full size ducks, Bill castings, small bird castings), blanks, wood
(cedar and basswood), carving bits, books, magazines, duplicator with
instructions, and a bunch of other "stuff". All of the proceeds will go back to
his widow, Doris. Gerry was also a machinist so there are some tools of that
trade in the auction as well. Still at the house is a pristine Craftsman 12"
band saw. Come and help us support Doris and remember Gerry!
If there are any questions, feel free to email Kathy Webster
