It’s easy to take for granted the smoke detector in the bedroom or hallway during your busy routine and not think twice about following up on checking it. The National Fire Protection Association’s 2012-2016 study of smoke alarms found 3 out of 5 home fire deaths were in properties with no smoke alarms at all or with improperly operating smoke alarms that were not operating correctly. If the home had a functioning smoke alarm, the risk of dying was cut in half compared to those without proper smoke alarms. Adding an extra layer of safety to the protection smoke alarms provide, the NFPA found half of the homes with a functioning alarm had a hardwired smoke detector. version of this scam involves the scam artists cold-calling without even being online. They claim to be able to fix the problem for a fee and after you give them remote access to your computer. Don’t let his happen to you, be weary of unsolicited phone calls especially if the caller pressures you. Only allow remote access to techs or support companies that you have legitimately contacted before. Be weary of opening attachments or links in emails from unknown senders – these can generate the less desirable pop-ups. If you suspect something isn’t quite right, don’t click on anything, and rather restart your computer.

Don’t be caught with your battery running low. Remember to use your siren to check your panel battery. Your system relies on this back-up battery in the event of a power outage. Low batteries can also lose strength faster in cooler weather. Set a schedule to replace wireless transmitter batteries.
