Definition:
Practicum is a supervised training program
for senior tourism students. It exposes students
in hands-on operations and management of local
tourism related establishments. It also gives the
students a worthwhile experiential learning as
they undergo with the whole program.

Definition:
The UST-CTHM Practicum for Travel
Management Program requires the students who are
enrolled in this course to complete 600 hours of
training in a tourism related establishment which is
equivalent to a 12-unit credit.
Practicum establishments are recommendedby the practicum faculty-in-charge and endorsed by
the DeansOffice.

Requisites:
1. Students must have completed and passed all
courses from first to third year.
2. Students enrolled in Practicum must be full-
time practicumers with no academic load/s.
3. Students must be officially enrolled before
they undergo training.

Paper Requirements:
1. Latest Temporary Transcript of Records
2. Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae
3. Certificate of Good Moral Character
4. Personality Test Results
5. NBI and/or Police Clearance
6. Physical Examination Results (if necessary)7. sized Index Card (with passport size photo in corporate
attire and some personal information to be written on the card)

Procedures:
1. Students will be informed by the Chair if
they will be scheduled to undergo practicum
for the coming semester, which is at least two
weeks prior to the end of the current
semester.
2. Once informed, they will be required toprepare the necessary documents.

Procedures:
3. An orientation will be conducted by either the
Chair or the Practicum Faculty-in-Charge to
discuss the necessary guidelines of theprogram.
4. A mock interview shall be conducted by the
faculty-in-charge to assess thecommunication skills of the students, at the
same time, give important tips in their
application.

Procedures:
5. At least one/two weeks week after the
interview, students are advised to report back
to UST-CTHM for their recommendation
letter.
6. After which, students are advised to process
the application.

Orientation:
1. Students who are enrolled in Practicum are
required to attend the orientation.
2. Important matters such as guidelines, dos and
donts, requirements, etc. will be discussed.
3. Students are required to be in complete school
uniform during the orientation.4. They are also required to take note of the
topics to be discussed.

Mock Interview:
1. Mock interview is conducted at least one
week after the orientation.
2. The faculty-in-charge conducts the interview.3. During the interview, students documents
are checked.
4. Students are also required to be in completecorporate attire.
5. Helpful tips are given by the faculty-in-
charge after the interview.

Meetings:
1. Practicumers are required to attend meetings
scheduled by the faculty-in-charge.
2. At least two meetings should be conducted
per semester.
3. Meeting agenda shall depend on the concerns
of the faculty-in-charge related to the program.

Practicum Visit:
1. Practicum faculty-in-charge conducts visits
to practicum sites.
2. Faculty-in-charge meets with the supervisorsto discuss the performance and attitude of the
students.
3. An initial report is acquired by the faculty-in-charge from the supervisors through the
visitation form.

Recommendation Letter:
1. Recommendation letters are distributed to the
students at least one week after the mock interview.
2. It contains the inside address of the establishment,name of the practicumer, and the number of hours
to be rendered by the student.
3. This document is issued only to students who are
officially enrolled.
4. It is signed by the Dean of the College.

Recommendation Letter:
3. This letter is encoded and printed by the
faculty-in-charge.
4. It must be photocopied for documentation
purposes.
5. The original must be submitted personally by
the student to the establishment.

Recommendation Slip:
This is a small sheet of paper with some
information filled-out by the practicumer if
he/she needs to apply in another establishment.
It is countersigned by the faculty-in-
charge.
It is also the basis of printing anotherrecommendation letter.

Evaluation Procedures:
1. In the middle to the program, students are
required to submit a research paper about the
establishment. Outline and content of the said
paper shall be discussed by the faculty-in-
charge.
2. This serves as the preliminary examination ofthe students.

Evaluation Procedures:
3. After the 600-hour training, students are
required to submit a comprehensive practicum
report which includes their personal,
professional and technical learning, daily
journal, company profile, work samples, and
other necessary documents. Practicum reportoutline is discussed during one of the meetings.

Evaluation Procedures:
4. Together with the practicum report is the
evaluation form that is acquired from the UST-
CTHM Deans Office. This must be
accomplished by the supervisor-in-charge of the
student trainees. It must be sealed in an envelope
and submitted to the faculty-in-charge.

Grading System:
Bulk of the grade is acquired from the
evaluation accomplished by the supervisor-in-
charge. As for the components, the practicum
grade is based on the following:Research Guidelines

1. Always project a professional and pleasant
personality.
2. Be punctual at all times.
3. Treat all members of the establishment with
courtesy and respect.4. Be pro-active and productive.
5. Always practice good grooming and hygiene.

1. Do not engage in a very personal relationship
with the employees.
2. Do not go out with the employees if invited.
3. Never wear revealing attires.
4. Never accept gifts, tips and the like from theclients/passengers. If they insist, turnover the
item/s to your supervisor.

Other Things to Remember:
If a student is not accepted or denied by anestablishment, another company will be
recommended for him/her. Same procedure will be
followed, however, a recommendation slip must be
filled out which includes the name/s of the trainee and
the address of the establishment.
Should the company request for an extension, aletter of notification addressed to the coordinator
should be sent to the CTHM Deans Office.

Other Things to Remember:
Any problems encountered by the practicumer should
be reported immediately to the faculty-in-charge.
Practicumers are required to have two sets ofpracticum uniform which is usually a corporate attire.
The uniform should be worn during their training and
whenever they visit the campus during school days.
