2019 Christmas Fete Reflections by Year 6 Students

Fete Reflection by Amelia (Room 5)

On the 22nd of November the school P&C organized an amazing fete after school between the hours of 4-7pm on the oval.

There were many stalls, games, rides and fun! With lots of money raised to help the school, so many people contributed

from students to teachers to parents and volunteers. Each block was in charge of a different stall, so it was great for the

students to be responsible and learning management skills. The highlight of the night had to be seeing our brave principal,

Mrs Hewson get dunked in the dunk tank and being laughed at by all of the students. Up on the stage for some amazing

entertainment we saw singing, dancing, music, comedy and an awesome whipping show. Everybody who entered the talent

show was very brave and had some amazing talents which they showcased to all of us. It was an amazing night and we

are very thankful to everyone who helped organize it.

Fete Reflection by Hollie (Room 5)

This year’s 2019 Singleton Primary Glittery Christmas Fete was by far the best one we’ve had! From setting up at 2:00 pm

to when it ended at 7:00 pm the fete was all smiles, laughs and very very loud singing! The fact that every block contributed

something for the fete was just amazing! Everyone had fun at the fete whether they were spraying hair multiple different

colours at the yellow block stall or if they were the ones getting their hair done! If they were dancing up on stage or the ones

and volunteered, and a mammoth thank you to the P&C for organizing the fete! This magical night never would have

happened without you!

Fete Reflection by Aquerah (Room 6)

On the 22nd of November, the P&C held a huge school fete! I believe it was the best one I have ever attended! There were

games, fundraisers, talent shows, races and many, many more that also included all the blocks to contribute with bake

sales from rainbow block, hairsprays from yellow block, slushy stands from red block and mystery jars from blue block! This

glittery fete lasted from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, though I wish it lasted longer. To choose a favourite moment is way too hard,

seeing Mrs Hewson getting dunked, eating the delicious goodies to performing in front of my family, friends and community

to name a few. But none of this would be possible if it weren’t for the fantastic Mrs Caboz! Not only did she prepare it for

us, but also had to go under the stress, calls, pressure and questions just so she could make sure it would be fun! Overall

the fete was awesome!!!

Year 6 Camp

Camp was one of our best highlights this year. We spent 3 amazing days at the Woodman Point Recreational Camp where

we took part in so many fun activities ranging from learning how to build a raft, to going on a flying fox from a platform that

is 9 meters up in the sky!

Camp was so much fun from being in the talent show to playing escape from quarantine! Hanging out with my friends in the

activities and when we had free time would have to be my favourite part of the whole trip. The camp used to be a quarantine

station which added to how much fun we had telling spooky stories and running around in the dark by ourselves during

escape from quarantine on the first night. The last thing I wanted to say would just be a MASSIVE thank you to the amazing

Mrs Williams for organizing the trip and thank you to all the teachers who came and helped.

I would definitely do it again next year if I had the chance!

Camp Reflection by Carris (Room 3) I don’t just speak for myself when I say that camp was the best experience ever! It was so much fun! We all took part in many fun and challenging activities, that everyone loved. From the first night when we played escape from quarantine, right up until we got on the bus to go back to school, we were all challenged by choice and had the best time! From beach games to raft building, 7km bike rides to a huge flying fox, the teachers and the students grew closer and had an AMAZING time laughing and having fun! My favourite activity was the flying fox. I was challenged as I have a fear of heights, but getting up onto the 9 metre platform and looking at the view, I knew I could do it. It was the best feeling knowing that I had conquered my fear and had a really good time doing it! Camp was the highlight of the year for me, I am sure that it was for a lot of other students as well!

Camp Reflection by Sydnee (Room 3)

Camp was the highlight of the year; it was so much fun! On the first night we played escape from quarantine because

Woodman Point used to be a quarantine station. We all had so much fun and we all had a laugh at Mr. Bowe because he

was trying to hide but he was hiding in the light! Mrs Williams read the girls dorm bedtime stories which all the girls loved.

Some of the amazing activities we did were the 9-meter-high flying fox which was scary but really fun, beach activities,

archery, circus skills and so many more fun things. On the last night we did a talent show it was really fun and funny! Over

all everyone that went to camp loved it and I’m sure that I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that we would all do it

again!

Camp Reflection by Ashley (Room 6)

Camp was an amazing experience for all the year 6’s this year. One of the moments I enjoyed the most was being the very

first year 6 of the trip to use the massive flying fox. Each night before we went to bed, Mrs Williams read the girls dorm a

bed time story. The group I was in with Mr Bowe we were making bets with him like, if we got a bullseye in archery we would

get an icy pole or, if we got to the top of the climbing wall we would get an icy pole too. Overall it was an amazing experience

that I am very grateful for and will remember forever.

Retirements & Goodbyes

After arriving at Singleton Primary School in 2003 Mrs Lynne Krombas has remained one of our valued and respected

educators in Junior Primary ever since. With diligence and consistency, Mrs Krombas was soon the Blue Block Leader and

a representative on the Finance Committee. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynne for her dedication to the

Public Education System. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement and we look forward to hearing all about your next 12 months

of adventures and cruises.

As the next chapter begins, Mrs Sam Brown will be leaving Singleton PS to start her own family. Mrs Brown joined Singleton

as a Prac Student with Mrs Sheryn Luxton and has gone on to become a permanent staff member of Singleton, much loved

by the staff, students and community alike. I would like to wish Sam & Mitch all the best as they embark on the wonderful

journey of parenthood. We can’t wait to cuddle baby Brown so we look forward to seeing you all back at Singleton soon.

Handwriting Challenge

The 2nd Singleton PS. Handwriting Challenge was held a little earlier this term and was hotly contested by every student from pre-primary upwards. At Singleton we value quality handwriting and believe beautiful handwriting and presentation should be acknowledged and celebrated. Students were challenged to write, ‘The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog’., three times with correct spelling punctuation and presentation. Their scripts were then assessed. The winner from each class received a certificate and the student with the best handwriting in each year level was awarded a carved pen in a presentation box. Congratulations to

Lilly N for having the most outstanding handwriting in the whole school.

Letters to the Mandurah RSL Veterans As part of their learning about the history and importance of Remembrance Day, Room T5 and Room 9 wrote letters of

thanks to Veterans at the Mandurah RSL. In addition to this, T5 discussed in great detail the courage and sacrifices our

past and present service men and women have made for our country and how important these people are to our local

community.

On Monday the 16th of December a representative from the Mandurah RSL and Vietnam War Veteran will be visiting T5 to

talk to them. Students will also be handing over the letters they wrote to the RSL representative.

I'd like to thank the students of Room 9 and Mrs Storey for joining in with this activity and writing some beautiful messages

to our local Veterans. It is so important that we educate our future leaders about the sacrifices that our past and present

armed forces have made and continue to make for our freedom.

Mrs Kelly Zuvich Year 3/4 Teacher

Library News 2019 has seen a lot of changes in the library, with the introduction of our first volunteer Story Dogs team, Christell and Lily.

They have been of huge benefit to the 4 students who read to them each Monday afternoon and will impact other lucky

students in 2020. We hope to be able to recruit some more volunteers so that this program can extend to a wider group of

students.

We had a fabulous Book Week, with a huge number of incredible costumes, and a musical National Simultaneous Story

Time led by Mr Bilston.

This year was also our most successful Scholastic Book Fair ever, with $5682 worth of books sold, providing us with $1732

of Scholastic products for our school. Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Fair.

It has been a pleasure to see all of the students in the school borrow, read and develop their abilities over the year.

To the graduating class of 2019, it has been a delight to get to know you, and I wish you all an amazing journey form here.

“A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.” – Mark Twain.

Sports Update The Interschool Athletics team did our school proud in our last event in the Comet Bay School Sport Association. In 2020

our school will compete in the newly formed Karnup School Sport Association or KSSA. The day was a scorcher and all

about resilience as our bus to Endeavour PS broke down not once but twice, meaning our kids were well and truly warmed

up by the first event.

We had some fantastic individual competitors on the day including Harry K who won Champion Year 5 Boy. Our students

demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and support on the day, cheering loudly and helping out their team mates. We

really shone in the team games which was a highlight of the day, as well as our relay teams who performed exceptionally.

School Banking Update Cathy and Mandy will be leaving as school banking volunteers at the end of this year. Both of their children will be starting High School in 2020 and will no longer be visiting Singleton Primary School. We have loved our three years with the school banking scheme and would like to thank our wonderful student savers, we will miss you all. Due to the above, school banking will be temporarily suspended until new volunteers are recruited. Of course, the bank accounts remain live and funds can be deposited or withdrawn at any Commonwealth Bank branch, but Dollarmite rewards are not available through this route. Parents, please consider if you can spare approximately 1 ½ hours per week to volunteer for this very rewarding program. You will receive great support from Libby, our Commonwealth Bank School Banking Co-ordinator, and I’m sure lots of patience from our wonderful student savers. Should you be interested in volunteering please speak with us or approach the office staff who can give you Libby’s contact details.

P&C Update The school fete was an amazing night of entertainment, rides, stalls and carnival games. The P&C would like to thank the

teachers, administration staff, students, parents and community members who volunteered their time to make the fete such

a wonderful event for our Singleton community. Without the support of these wonderful volunteers these amazing events

would not be able to go ahead. We hope everyone one had great time and enjoyed dunking Mrs Hewson in the dunk tank.

A special thankyou to our retiring P&C President, Belinda Caboz. Belinda has gone above and beyond in her role to ensure

the P&C runs great events and creative fundraisers that have not only raised valuable funds for the school but has also

delivered wonderful, colourful experiences for the students and school community.

2019 was a busy year for the P&C starting the school year off with the fantastic Colour Run, followed by countless sausage

sizzles, Casino Bus night, School Disco, Quiz night, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, Loose Change Challenge,

Designer Bricks, Sundowners with the Singleton Social Club, Tape the principal and the finally the Christmas Fete. We

thank everyone who helped out and came along to support our events.

The P&C has one more event for the year we will be sizzling up more sausages at the Golden Bay Christmas Carols so

please come along and support us one last time for the year.
