Jeep Rescue Concept at the 2009 Tarrant County Auto Show

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that came out for our meeting in January. I expected a low turnout due to the playoffs but was presently surprised to see the largest group we have had (besides the Christmas Party) in a long time. Let’s keep up the attendance. Come join us and visit with your fellow club members.

Our February Meeting is on February 15th which happens to be the same day as the Daytona 500 so we will have our room at 1:00 to have a watching party before the meeting. Be sure to come join us. I hope to have an announcement to make about our new sponsor then. We should have it worked out by then. February is here and starting the activities are starting to pick up. We have the 2 local indoor car shows this month and we have club members showing their cars in both of them. Get out and support our fellow club members at the shows. The first one is the Dallas Autorama, Feb. 13 – 15th at Market Hall. Two weeks later, we have the Fort Worth Rod & Custom Show at Will Rogers, Feb. 27 – 28 and Mar. 1. I hope to attend both shows and hope many of you do the same. Once we get these 2 shows behind us, we are getting ready to start the Muscle Car Challenge again. The first race will be at Kennedale on March 15th. Get those cars ready and let’s make it 8 years in a row. WE CAN DO IT!!! We are also planning to have a Cruise in March to Glen Rose Dinosaur Valley State Park and have a picnic. I hope we have a good turnout. We have had a great time on the last 2 Cruises so come join us before it gets too hot out there to drive your classics. Remember that nominations are being taken for the elections for the Board in March. Come on out and nominate someone or yourself. Hope to see everyone at the meeting Mike Bearce President

Mopars At The Motorplex Show Details

This year at Mopars At The Motorplex we will be having a judged car show. We have a joint committee made of members from both Dallas and Cowtown Mopars to help organize everything. As usual, we are in need of people the day of the show to help. We will NOT be handling registration money, so that will make our lives much easier. However, we still need people to help with Registration, Judging, parking control and selling 50/50 tickets, etc. We will have 34 classes in the show. There will NOT be a “Race Class” since most race cars will be racing. Due to logistical issues, Cars in the show cannot participate in the race. If you would like to volunteer to help contact Dave Mandato, Ken Key, or Kirk Maisenbacher.

Here is the TMCCC race schedule for 2009: Kennedale March 15th Temple April 5th Ennis April 26th Denton May 31st Ennis September 11th Denton September 20th Kennedale October 18th There may be a race added. Steve Wiggin has put us on a "new racer alert". Ashley will be racing Steve's truck this year. That is GREAT news and we will show Ashley the same support that she has shown us. Ashley has been a race team member for years and this year she will see how it feels to go down the track. It is a blast and you will love it Ash-ley. Bobby and Zach Avis started racing with us last year and Mike and Blake Bearce have been racing for a few years. It is GREAT to see families join together at the track. See ya there soon! We had another Mopars at the Motorplex meeting January 31st. Ken Castleman has been in contact with Diane Sox and Clark Rand and unfortunately they will not be able to attend this year's show. That has pressed us to locate another charity. We are all in agreement that this year's show will benefit the Ronald McDonald House. Marty Robertson made the recommendation and has agreed to head up the charity again this year. Thanks Marty! As I have already mentioned MAALT Transport will be the "presented by" sponsor again this year. Thanks Marty! Bill Boon The Texas Trailer Man will be a "race class sponsor". Last month I mentioned Bill will be guaranteeing the payout in ET Eliminator. Thanks Bill! Now Keith Gumaer will also be a "race class sponsor" and is guaranteeing the payout in the Sportsman class. Thanks Keith! Phillip Nickles, owner of Nickles Auto Works, will be an "associate sponsor" again this year. Thanks Phillip! There will be 6 race classes this year. The LX Club wants to run with the rest of us this year and we are glad to eliminate that class and see them race in the other classes. I'm sure they will be out in force to race and show this year. Hope to see all you LX owners at the Motorplex! The sponsor levels for 2009 will be: Level one:"event vendor" $250 Level two:"associate sponsor" $500 Level three:"race class sponsor" $1000 It is not too late to be a 2009 sponsor, let me know. Level four:"race class sponsor" $1500 Level five:Event "presented by" sponsor $5000 See ya Beep! Beep! Mark

February 2009 Car Of The Month Bryan Carpenter’s 1966 Dodge Dart GT

For those who do not know me I am a charter member of Cowtown Mopars. I have three 66 Dodge Darts. I got my 66GT hardtop in 1984 for $300. The guy I got it from (also a club mem-ber) was selling it because he could not get the lights to work. I gave him the cash and drove it home where I began to check out the lights. About 10 min later I was calling the previous owner to inform him that if he would have cleaned the rust off of the fuse clips the lights would have worked for him. I felt a great need to inform him of this, because he was an electrical en-gineer (he was not amused). I used it as a daily driver for several years before I began to work on it. It had a slant 6 when I got it, which I replaced with a 360. I soon decided more cubic inches were required and swapped the 360 out for a 400. About a year ago, I put a 69’ 340 in place of the 400. The 400 was fun but it is a lot better drive with out the excess front-end weight. With 3.55 gears, fender well headers and a 650 double pumper the 340 is plenty of fun too. Now I’m going to try to leave it alone long enough to finish my 64 and ½ Barracuda.
