done to aerobics or even Zumba to dancing.

    The Jelly Beans And Potatoes

Lets consider your outstanding basic curriculum is the potatoand that saves their lives. The jellybeans are the fun and coolthings that students keep coming back for. The jump kicks, acrobatics, weapons, camps, seminars, special events thatmake it fun and creates your community and tribe.

How do we make Youth Martial Arts the

    Coolest Activity to be in?

We already know its powerful but we are losing the Tweensand Teens because we lack the style, media, and the eventsthat other action lifestyle sports have. Kids start to transition tobeing independent and have to find their identity and circle of

influence/friends. We really need to be here for this group. Theystrive to be cool and popular and to be a part of somethingtheir friends look up to. Right or wrong, it is the truth and mediareally drives this.

Every student experience needs to inspire the Martial ArtsLifestyle. When you have students addicted to the lifestyle theywill be students for life.

    The Easy Curriculum Fix

Make your traditional black belt experience and curriculumoutstanding. This is the student curriculum they learn on the

journey to back belt and through their degrees. Next, create

incredible add-on experiences that will compliment yourtraditional program.

A very famous wealth advisor once said, Wealthy people haveboth. They have the cake and they eat it too.

I see this as the realwinning combinationin schools all the time. You can have both,a powerful traditionalprogram and modernstrategies combined.

Camps and Seminarsare powerful becauseyou have a day andor the week to reallymotivate your studentsand have fun. Thisis where they get achance to meet newfriends, learn some cool

moves, workout with high level belts and spend time with theinstructors and role models. Through many surveys and 100of camps, I have found that the Tween and Teen studentfavorite curriculum are: Kicks

    Jump Kicks

    Weapons

    Acrobatics

    Realistic self-defense

Combine This Martial Arts Camp Curriculum With:

    Fun games Team building challenges

    Creative and free time

    Outdoor experiences

Martial arts video games & short movies

    Performance shows

    Character training

Change each session every 15 to 30 minutes and allow fosome kick back time. The outcome is powerful and the incomis really generous. The time flies by and is easy to teach.

Every year there are 8-10 days off where you can hold a cootraining day. There are also 15 weeks when kids are out o

school. Imagine what an incredible opportunity this is to getstudents inspired, create new instructors and generate seriouincome. We have schools that have generated $200,000 in onsummer while creating new martial arts athlete ambassadorand instructors.Camp Yearly Income(8) 1-Day camps with 40 students @ $50= $16,000(15) 1- Week camps with 40 students @ $200= $120,000

Pro Training Sessions And Competition/Demo Teams

Combining music, plyometrics, cool kick combinationsacrobatics, creative forms and weapons forms really makea fun experience that also builds fast and powerful martiaarts athletes. This fun experience and extra training gives thtraditional program a huge boost of excitement and retentionHost a special training session each week and at the end oeach season do a cool performance.

Use These Different Performances For Fun And Value

    Perform for under belt classes.

    Perform at graduation.

Do a demo at a movie opening, sportsplex, tournamen

or a school event. Shoot a video in cool clothes at a park or special area

    Facebook/YouTube the performance.

Shoot individual videos (samplers) of each student on you

    team in cool clothes.

    Do a cool Photo shoot.Performance Team Income50 Members at $599 year= $30,000

    Marketing Gone Wrong?

Most schools have found moderate success in marketing tthe kids with issues: kids who are bullied, have behavior &

psychological problems, low self-esteem and poor gradesThis is a good market but what about the rest of the kids in thcommunity? Do you think this marketing has hurt us? I know has because in many kids minds martial arts is for the kids whcant fight and need it for some reason. Kids make fun of kid

who take martial arts and make jokes. Ihave experienced this myself in schooland have talked to many kids who feelthe same way. Just ask your studentsif they tell all of their friends they are inmartial arts. See how many studentsyou lose to other sports.

    Market the Martial Arts Athlete

This is why we are doing a lot topromote the Martial Arts Athlete: anathlete with martial arts power. They arefast, powerful, can protect themselvesand have traditional core values withstyle. We are going after the normal kid and the kid who playsother sports but wants to be cooler. Statistically kids like rulesbecause it gives them security but they like autonomy becausethey get to be creative and feel the power of independenceand the rewards of creating things on their own. This is whywe created clothing to help students have style and wear theirclothing that represents who they are. We created the ProTraining Sessions to make them fast, powerful and be able todo martial arts tricks they can show their friends.

    New Student Income20 New students per year @ $1,500 = $30,000

Events, Contests, Challenges, Video Games and MediaOver 80% of the kids we surveyed would rather be in the X-gamesthan the Olympics. This is a real indicator of change. This willcontinue to grow. The X-games has gone from one event a yearto 5 events in 2013. They have taken the traditional challengesand turned them into incredible consumer experiences. Haveyou seen the Crossfit Games? Another example of a new sport

and creating an incredible experience. Look at how UFC hascompletely dominated Boxing so quickly.

Take your events and create experiences. Our Hyper Gamesexperience uses djs, music and cool modern martial artschallenges. The events are fun and help us create media thatwe can post right away. We created the Hyper challenge thatschools do 3 times a year now. Winter, Spring and SummerHyper Challenges are cool in-school events that give thestudents the benefits of competition with out all of the downparts of tournaments.

    Retention Value

30 Members a year stay inspired and committed because theyare hooked from new Camps, Pro Training and or Cool Events.30 Students @ $1,500pr year= $45,000 in Retention Value

    Get Media Rich

Use your cool events to create your media library. Google andYouTube are partners and you will get a lot of SEO from thesefun short videos when they are titled correctly. Would your

students want you to post a video of them getting a new belt fotheir friends to see? How about doing a traditional form? Whawould be cool to post? Todays youth are posting videos all thtime. Use your camps, outdoor performances and events tcreate killer content that is easy to post and gives your studentcool credibility with their peers.

What We Have Learned From Video Games

Action sports have copied what I call the Video GamAddiction by using levels, points, height and spins to gaugperformances. Years ago while watching a kid sit in my lobbplaying a video game, I turned over a new leaf. I could not gethis kid to start martial arts and he would play his video gamfor hours while his brother was training. I realized this is a newgeneration and they learn and respect things differently. Hwould respect someone more for reaching level 10 than beinin a good horse stance. Stop fighting it; use it as a learning

tool. I started creating levels and points to quantify effort antechniques so kids would understand and learn better.

    Pro Kick Challenge

What does Kick Higher mean anyway? Try this with youstudents doing a front kick. Level 1- Waist

    Level 2- Chest

    Level 3- Head (eye level)

    Level 4- Above Head

Pro Level 5- Finger Tips (arm straight up), hit target with

    jump kick.
