2016 ROUND UP

A year to remember at THC !

A lot’s changed at THC in the

130 years since some chaps in South Manchester set up one of

the first hockey club’s in the North ! Women, Kids, Babies

and even dogs are all now part

of what makes Timperley Hockey Club a special place !

Take a look back at a most special

year in our Club’s long history and

for the #hockeyfamily following GB’s Gold in Rio. On and off the pitch

thanks to the work of all those involved in the club, in so many

ways, we’ve pretty much offered something for everyone – all ages –

all abilities in 2016 – so lets make

2017 another great year to be involved with Timperley.

players, coaches, umpires,

supporters and sponsors for making 2016 such a special year.

JANUARY A game at a time was all the L1’s and Leicester City were thinking of in January as few were predicting the next

few months. #OneClub was our focus –getting Timperley’s name on the hockey map was our aim in 2016 !

FEBRUARY Ladies 1 were cranking up the wins and topped the North Premier Division. The U16 Boys reached the EH Regional Finals and narrowly missed out on National Finals - Coach Bolts blending in the lads at Leek !

…and Ben Nicholson was selected for England U16’s

MARCH What a month! The Ladies 1’s with big home support won the North Premier

Division with a game to spare and promotion to the IWHL (National League)

…and the seasons goal to get the Ladies 3’s promoted also saw champagne corks on the blue pitch

…the Annual Men’s Vets tournament was capped off with a win for the men in blue too!

We rounded off March with a really successful Dinner with much to celebrate

APRIL A coach trip, ukulele and a grand day out for THC at the Cheshire Cup Finals at Deeside. Both 1’s in the finals with the Ladies coming out top on the pitch with the men winning the best song with ‘Man and ball’

April got even better when we were nominated finalists for three England Hockey Awards – Club of the Year, Women’s Team of the Year and Club Umpire of the Year.

MAY More tournament success with our Men

winning the Annual tournament for teams in the NWHL lower leagues – a motty crew of youth the experience !

Pre season planning starts for with a few drinks and a workshop that created our 2016-17 season plans for: #GreatMatchDay #GreatHockeyClub

Lots of the ideas have been put into place as we focused on what we loved

(and hated!) about THC and how to make things even better !

Highlight for May was a night to remember at the England Hockey Awards and a very special table host for L1’s – picking up some tips for Rio from Danny Higgin!

Five THC Ladies Captains were also reunited at the EH Dinner – Sophie, Kate, Smally, Sue Acott and Shelagh

Nick Burnett couldn’t attend the dinner but picked up the EH Club Umpire of the Year Award for his work to develop our

umpire pool – receiving his award from TSC Chair – Alan Holdsworth.

We also kicked off Back to Hockey in May and it’s great to see so many now

playing on a Saturday – including Dave Orpet who also took on M6 captain

Ladies 7’s Summer League kicked in May with 14 teams taking part over 10 weeks with back to back hockey on Wednesday nights ! We also rounded off another successful season for our Academy with a packed Presentation Day

JUNE

With the end of the league season long gone it was time to turn to fitness in

June! We also had a new recruiter as #hockeydog started his campaign to

raise awareness of hockey at THC.

Another surprise award for the 2015-16

season as the M5’s pick up the NWHL Fair Play award. We’ll be offering the chance to get your hands on the signed Ashley Jackson stick as part of the 2017 Dinner Dance Auction !

Not to be outdone by the men’s tournaments the annual ladies vets 7’s hit monsoon conditions as THC brought a touch of Cool Runnings to the club

JULY Inspired by the ladies vets and memories Rodney Philips we appoint new Men’s coach Albert Marcano to bring some Trinidad and Tobago spice for the new season – who was not only coaching the men but hitting 50 for TCC 3’s, playing vets and for any team that will have him and umpiring too ! Following retweets by the FIH and other hockey clubs #hockeydog is announced at England Hockey’s …….

AUGUST Who can forget August and the 9 million people watching hockey on BBC1 as the GB Girls won Gold in Rio ! Suddenly the Nation got what we were up to chasing a ball around a pitch with sticks was all about !

Full pre-season continued for all teams as the new season was almost upon us! Fund-raising cracked on for the new season with a bumper car boot sale – with 45 volunteers making it down

SEPTEMBER THC #HomeGrown policy continues with many new arrivals as the ‘babies’ were out in force at the start of the season – futures looking bright and look out for hockey ‘tots’ in 2017

It was full steam ahead to get ready for the new season and our first home National League game - we also took delivery of our new Blue FIH Standard Hockey Goals !

Behind the scenes we’ve been busy supporting and training our volunteers in 2016 in Safeguarding, Umpiring and First Aid

OCTOBER A new addition to the THC social calendar – Oktoberfest hit the mark and return in 2017!

We also ran our first Half Term Hockey Camp in a while with Albert and Jim doing a fine double act! The next Camp will be in February Half Term 2017.

Probably one of the most unusual hockey photo’s of 2016 as L1’s Sarah Chancellor shows how to get a grip of the opposition !

NOVEMBER An impromptu fund-raising opportunity with ‘Grow Your Tenners’ saw TSC members raise over £2500 in 6 days paying for decorating the function room and new sound system and projector –

thanks to everyone who contriuted

Following a tough start to National League Hockey the L1 kept positive with a key home win over Belper. Let’s get lots of home support the girls in 2017

Inspiring the next generation a real treat for some of the Academy girls meeting Nicola White

…plus the return of Wine Tasting to TSC ..and a bit of drinking ….

DECEMBER

With our first foray into the world of Indoor Hockey the U18 are North Runners Up and on way to the National Finals in Jan 2017

We also welcomed two new members Tim and Perley look out for them in 2017!
