Meet our Team!
Co-Chairs’ Message
A student’s university experience holds much more than what is solely in their academic
studies. Looking beyond one’s boundaries is always important when a student is seeking to
maximize their knowledge and opportunities during and after university. Whether it’s connected
through their school or within the community, giving a student the chance to participate in a
learning environment is the best way to help contribute to this experience. Through the past three
years the annual UOIT Accounting Association (UOAA) Conference has shown to be a
successful event that provides our delegates with an experience beyond their academic studies.
As the Conference Co-Chairs, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the
UOAA 2013 Conference; Connecting Beyond Boundaries. At this two day event we hope to
develop new elements to the Conference that will help generate an overall better experience for
our delegates, attendees, and sponsors.
The UOAA is consistently seeking for better ways to help establish connections with
industry professionals. These connections are proven to assist delegates in obtaining employment
and expanding their professional network. The annual Conference is a unique event that not only
provides students with the opportunity to create relationships, but also showcase the skills they
have learnt in a competitive environment. Here we empower delegates with the opportunity and
resources needed to work effectively as a team towards a common goal. This event goes beyond
just a competition; through innovative workshops, motivational guest speakers and formal
networking settings, the UOAA successfully hosts a Conference that maximizes the delegates’
experiences.
In 2013 the UOAA plans to enhance what our Conference has to offer. By inviting other
schools our event will foster a new element of competition and provide our delegates with more
insight towards external competition. This will also be a great opportunity for other universities
and professionals to see UOIT as we will be hosting the duration of the Conference at the new
UOIT north campus. With these changes in mind we feel that we will be able to achieve the
meaning of our theme, Connecting Beyond Boundaries.
We would like to thank you for attending the UOAA 2013 Conference.
Yours Truly,
Daniel Ibanez & Sarah Famme

Wind Tunnel
The Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) is the first testing and research centre of its
kind in Canada, and in many respects the world. It is owned by the University of Ontario
Institute of technology and is located on the University’s North Campus. ACE is a multi-purpose
centre that is divided into two distinct sections: a Core Research Facility (CRF) and an Integrated
Research and Training Facility (IRTF).
The CRF section offers full-size chambers that allow for full climatic, structural and
lifecycle testing including one of the largest and most sophisticated climatic wind tunnels on the
planet. In the test chamber, wind speeds can exceed 240 kilometers per hour and temperatures
range from -40 to +60°C. The IRTF spans five floors with space dedicated for research,
education and training. This facility will foster an environment for collaboration and interaction
between industry, researchers and students. ACE was developed in partnership with UOIT,
General Motors of Canada, the Government of Ontario, the Government of Canada and the
Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE). The total cost of
the facility is approximately $100 million CDN.

FAQ
Q. How much time is allotted?
Delegates will be given two hours to read the case and prepare a solution before presenting to the
panel of judges.
Q: Are we given any resources during the case breakout?
Yes, you will be given paper, a calculator, pen or pencil, an eraser and a highlighter. All teams will
be provided with a laptop to prepare a PowerPoint presentation. Please refer to the case competition
rules, no additional electronic devices or internet connectivity will be allowed during the case
breakout. After the case breakout, all documents provided including your notes will be collected.
Each member of your team is allowed one cue card for the presentation. All resources eligible for use
will be provided for you the day of the competition (do not bring your own).
Q: What do judges look for in our presentation?
During the case breakout, you must reserve time on how you will present your analysis. It is
important to be clear and concise when presenting your solution to the panel of judges. You are
selling your recommendation to the judges; you are not rehearsing the case provided.
Q: How are the winners chosen at this year’s conference?
Each team will present in front of a panel of judges. Each judge has been given training and an
outline of the case you will be presenting. The top three junior and senior teams will be announced at

for your respective level, as well as the delegates who participated in your level. Awards will be
given during dinner at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club.
Q: What should I wear to the conference?
The conference is a business formal event. Please dress appropriately. A guideline can be found in
