Traces of Grace Dear Fellow Parishioners; Please welcome our new seminarian intern, Fredy Mancilla. What is an seminarian intern? Read Fredy’s Bio below and I think you will get a good idea. If you have been in the parish for a few years, you might remember other semi-narian interns who have graced our community: Matt Munoz and Dave Klunk. Both are now excellent priests, so it would seem that your influence has been a good one for them. Fredy will be assisting and learning in several different areas of ministry, so be encouraging and supportive. We look forward to a good year with his presence among us. Fr. Phil D’Auby from the bay area has arrived and will be with us for a couple of weeks. If you see a white headed gent with a big smile, that’s probably Fr. Phil so be sure to say hello. Welcome Fr. Phil! Together in Christ; Fr. Steve

Fredy O. Mancilla – Autobiography I was born in San Gil, Santander, Colombia, in a land full of adventure and ecotourism. I am the second of five siblings: Rene, Luz, Fernando, and Luis. I was three years old when my parents, José and Rosalba, decided to move to a different town. Our whole family relocated to Garagoa, Boyacá, Colombia where we lived for about ten years. There, I completed elementary school and a year of junior high school. At the age of thirteen, my family moved back to San Gil, Santander.

In January of 1999, willing to have a deeper relationship with God and inspired by my brother Rene’s spiritual journey (he was already discerning God’s call to the priesthood with the Vincentian Fathers) I decided to join the minor seminary of the Vincentian Fa-thers at the Seminario Menor la Apostólica in Santa Rosa de Cabal, Risaralda, Colombia.

There, I completed my high school studies. Then I continued my vocational journey at the Seminario Mayor de la Med-alla Milagrosa in Medellin, Antioquia, where I completed my philosophy studies in 2004; the same year I was admitted to the novitiate. Once I finished my novitiate, I had an internship experience at the minor seminary of La Apostólica in 2005.

I studied a total of seven years with the Vincentian Fathers. On the sixth year while doing my novitiate, I began to in-quire about the diocesan priestly vocation. However, it did not come into total clarity until later. In August of 2005, I came to the United States for the first time. The purpose of my trip was to learn English. I completed two semesters of English studies at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, CA. While being here and continuing reflecting on my priestly voca-tion, I realized that I was being called for the diocesan priesthood.

After my novitiate I became totally aware of my vocation. I wanted to be a Roman Catholic Priest, but not in a religious order. During my experience in the United States, I realized a significant part of my vocation, which I described as “a call within the call” (as mother Teresa once said). As a Vincentian Seminarian I always wanted to be a missionary. One of my dreams was to be able to go to China or to Africa so that I could share my faith with other people from different backgrounds and cultures. Here, it became clear to me that I had a good opportunity to fulfill such missionary dream. I met some seminarians from the Dioceses of Orange, who encouraged me to be part of their diocese. I also met Msgr. Wilbur Davis (Vocation Director), who invited me to come and study for the Dioceses of Orange. Presently, I am both happy and at peace with my vocation and decision of having joined the Diocese of Orange.

Recently, I have completed my third year of theological studies at Mount Angel Seminary in St. Benedict, Oregon. As part of the priestly formation program I was assigned to St. Edward the Confessor in order to do a pastoral internship year. In two years, I will conclude my theological studies. God willing I will be ordained a transitional deacon next summer of 2012. Thus, I am glad to be here and excited about this pastoral year because I know I will gain many ex-periences that will help me to become a good Roman Catholic priest to serve God’s people. II

September 18, 2011 † Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Estimados Feligreses,

Using Scripture and the Enneagram Personality System, she will guide us through more effective ways to reach out and communicate with others.
