Hello from Unthinkable!

Our mission is to lead the world to love God and love people. For more about our general purpose, strategy, fundamental beliefs and organizational structure, head over to beunthinkable.org/about.

The first resource created by Unthinkable was a feature length documentary entitled, My Concrete Mattress (MCM). Filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, during the winter of 2007 and spring of 2008, MCM is a feature-length documentary that captures and portrays the lives of four homeless individuals: John, Dwight, Deborah and Anthron. The goal of the film was to move beyond the stereotypes of homelessness and simply display the true stories of four people. Since filming, we had the privilege of holding screenings in front of literally thousands of men, women and children from all across the country. Jonathan Goode and Wes Peters just wound down a two month long tour across the United States where MCM was shown to everyone from middle school students to elderly adults. During the course of the tour, screenings were held in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, New York, Washington, DC, Virginia, North Carolina and, of course, our home state of Georgia. While we will continue utilizing MCM, holding screenings and having conversations about the reality of homelessness in America and, more specifically, the response of the Christian church, we now feel led to expand our reach. Our next project is the issue of orphaned children. The Bible is very clear in commanding the followers of Christ to take up the cause of orphans (and widows). It is this cause that James refers to as “pure and faultless religion”. Because of our conviction, we are working hard to develop our next film on the topic of orphans. When we filmed MCM, we had about $1,200 on hand. At this point, we were not an official organization, merely an idea. We made a full-length documentary, completely in HD, with $1,200. That is staggering. All in all, we spent only around $2,500 on production, replication, etc. As we continue to learn, and prove faithful with the resources given for MCM, we feel inclined to improve on the quality of production from our first film. However, improvements in production cost money. We have determined that with an approximate production budget of $3,500, we can greatly increase our creative capabilities. Furthermore, as an organization recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501C3 non-profit, we are now able to provide tax write off incentives to all perspective donors. Our hope is to capture, as well as a camera can, the plight of orphans in America. We desire to show the good, the bad, the pretty, the ugly. We long to illustrate a real perspective on this issue. However, we need the resources to make the film a reality. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us by using the information below. Sincerely, The Unthinkable Team [email protected]
