What is Junior Achievement? Junior Achievement of New York (JA New York) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy. Our corporate and community volunteers deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world - enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school.

Thank you! Before we go any further, thank you for volunteering to be a fundraiser! We are here to help you reach your goal…and have fun doing it. So, where to begin?

First, the four fundraising steps:

1. Register! Captains must start a team BEFORE teammates can join. Team size is eight bowlers. Click Register Here on the homepage to join.

2. Email friends and family your personal page link and post it on social media. It’s an easy way to let people know about the event and to raise money! Everyone who donates online gets an e-‐mail thank you and tax receipt automatically. You can use the email templates already available in your Bowler HQ, and they are also listed starting on page three.

3. Send reminder e‐mails at least three times during the campaign. Even the people who want to support you receive e-‐mails at bad times and then forget to take action. Statistically, most people need to receive your ‘ask’ three times before they respond.

4. Encourage your team members. Send emails to your team members to encourage them to reach their goal and remind them of the prizes you can win as a team!

Additional Fundraising Tips and Ideas

E‐mail signature: Include a line in your e-‐mail signature (at work and/or at home) letting your friends and family know about the JA Bowl-A-Thon. Include a link to your fundraising page. Special occasions: If you have a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion coming up, why not ask for donations instead of gifts? Host a bake sale in the office: This is a great activity for your team! And who doesn’t enjoy a sweet snack after lunch? Dinner party: Cook dinner for your guests and ask them to donate what they would pay in a Restaurant for a similar meal. Talk it up! Ask your doctor, dentist, hairdresser, grocer or favorite business owner to support you.

50 Contacts in 5 Minutes Not sure who to ask to support you? All you need is 5 minutes, and a pen and paper (or excel spreadsheet) and you’ll find you know A LOT more folks that you ever imagined….try this: • List 5 relatives

• List 5 friends

• List 5 co-‐workers

• List 5 former co-‐workers

• List 5 neighbors

• List 5 former neighbors

• List 5 organization contacts

• List 5 people that “take care of you” (hairdresser, doctor, dentist, mechanic, etc.)

• List 5 people who invited you to a party, wedding, anniversary, etc.

• List 5 spouse’s/significant other co-‐workers or their spouses

• List 5 contacts through your children’s associations (nieces, nephews, and grandkids count!)

So now what? It’s simple, through your online fundraising page send all these folks an email with the link to your page and make a donation to support you. Email templates are in the My HQ on the Kintera site and available on the next two pages.

Hello Friends & Family-

On October 29 I’m participating in a Bowl-A-Thon for Junior Achievement of New York. For those of you are not familiar with this great organization, JA New York provides programs to over 67,000 NYC and Long Island students about the importance of staying in school, personal finance, entrepreneurship and career exploration.

Any donation great or small would be greatly appreciated! Most important is your support and what it will do for the next generation. I am working to reach a fundraising goal of $200. Donations can be made at:

I started a team for the Junior Achievement of New York Univision Bowl-A-Thon, and I would love for you to join! Univision recently joined the board of JA, and this event is great opportunity to "party with a purpose" by raising money for a great cause and having fun outside of the office.

For those of you are not familiar with this great organization, JA provides programs to over 67,000 NYC and Long Island students about the importance of staying in school, personal finance, entrepreneurship and college and career exploration. It’s all led by community and corporate volunteers from companies like Univision.

Wednesday, October 29 | 6-8pm Frames, Second Floor, Port Authority Terminal

There is no fee to participate and food, beverages and bowling is provided. Your fundraising goal would be $200 – enough to fund a JA kit with the materials needed to teach two entire classrooms. Ask colleagues, friends and family to help you help kids!
