  • Brief History

    In the year 1910 a joint initiative was taken by Sir Agha Khan, Syed Amir Ali, Syed Ali Imam and Nawab Viquarul Mulk to cater to the need of Technical Education.

    In the year 1929, Sir Shah Sulaiman submitted a comprehensive proposal for technical education and started with Soap and Ink making programme.

    In the year 1930, Mr. Obaidullah Durrani started Industrial Training Courses in Motor Mechanic and Machinist trade.

    In the year 1936, with active participation of H. H. Mir Usman Ali Khan, Diploma courses in Motor Engineering and Electrical Engineering started.

    The University Polytechnic, AMU, was established in the year 1937.

  • Special Distinction

    University Polytechnic of AMU was awarded for being best Polytechnic in the northern region in the year 1990.

    A national award for outstanding work done in the specified area of Engineering & Technology (Institutional development) was conferred upon this institute in the year 1991.

    Taking into account the academic achievements, Dr. Y. V. N. Rao (a representative from UGC) acknowledged that the University Polytechnic of Aligarh Muslim University is distinctly different from other polytechnics all over the country.
