2018 Spring & Summer Internships: Green Team Leadership NOTE: Unpaid Internship / 135 hours / Can customize outcomes and hours to meet course requirements Looking for a fun way to fulfill your intern or service learning project? The Utah Pride Festival (UPF) Sustainability Green Team is seeking leadership interns to assist in the planning and execution of the 2018 UPF Sustainability Plan. These internships provide excellent opportunities to learn what is involved in “Green” Event planning and execution of an innovative waste management plan seeking to make the Utah Pride Festival the first Zero Waste Event of its kind. Each intern will have the opportunity to participate and gain hands-on experience with event management, planning, logistics, recruitment, and fundraising and to make community connections as an integral part of the biggest, most exciting week-long event in downtown Salt Lake City. No event experience, no problem. This is an opportunity to learn. Utah Pride unites, empowers and celebrates Utah’s diverse LGBTQ+ community by providing a safe and welcoming space for education, partnerships, services and events which advance our collective health, wellness and success. UPF Green Team Interns will be part of an 8-person leadership team that reports to the Utah Pride Festival Sustainability Director. Positions (8) Green Team Communication & Volunteer Recruitment Manager: Manage social media including scheduling, content creation and postings for UPF Sustainability Green Team. Assist with the design and creation of educational materials, signage, announcements, merchandise, and marketing materials for use leading up to event and during. Actively recruit Green Team general volunteers (100+) through social media and other outlets. Compile data, analyze effectiveness, and make recommendations.

Looking for a fun way to fulfill your intern or service learning project? The Utah Pride Festival (UPF) Sustainability Green Team is seeking leadership interns to assist in the planning and execution of the 2018 UPF Sustainability Plan. UPF Green Team Interns will be part of an 8-person leadership team that reports to the Utah Pride Festival Sustainability Director.

Positions (8)

Green Team Communication & Volunteer Recruitment Manager: Manage social media including scheduling, content creation and postings for UPF Sustainability Green Team. Assist with the design and creation of educational materials, signage, announcements, merchandise, and marketing materials for use leading up to event and during. Actively recruit Green Team general volunteers (100+) through social media and other outlets. Compile data, analyze effectiveness, and make recommendations.

Zero Waste Manager: Individual(s) will do research and make recommendations to help UPF get closer to its zero waste goals. Identify what other similar events are doing at the local and national level. Review past event data, compile in updated report, and propose waste management strategies and implementation plan for UPF 2018.

Water Manager: Individual(s) will do research, evaluate past activities, and make recommendations to help UPF improve how it provides free-filtered water to guests and provides water along the parade route. Currently, UPF uses two custom built water bottle filling stations and many water coolers. UPF is looking to improve and expand infrastructure to improve efficiencies. Interns will have the opportunity to provide hands-on assistance with engineering and building of water stations to be used at event.

Green Team Vendors Manager: Will assist with volunteer and vendor training/orientation sessions for General Vendors and Food Vendors. This will include development of training content related to waste-reduction and ecofriendly behaviors all vendors can engage in to support the broader UPF sustainability plan. This position will also be asked to evaluate past vendor behavior, research other events, and make recommendations to further vendor support for UPF sustainability goals.

Required Skills: All positions require the willingness to learn new things, readiness to share knowledge, desire to reduce environmental impacts, and ability to have fun while you do it. Intermediate computer skills and a basic knowledge of social media necessary.

Responsibilities:Event Date: Utah Pride Festival, June 2-3, 2018

All positions will assist with event planning and be active members of the leadership green team for the festival.

Time commitments will vary for spring and summer semester interns. Hours are flexible and negotiable.

Spring semester (Jan 8-May 2) will require weekly 8-hour time commitment, weekly meeting, and written assignment as described above. All leadership team members will assist with volunteer recruitment and be asked to volunteer at the Utah Pride Festival in June. Level of commitment is negotiable but a minimum of two 4-hour shifts preferred.

Summer semester – first half only (May 14-June 20) Will require being onsite for the Utah Pride Festival both Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3. Responsibilities will include leading shift volunteers, recycling & waste, ground beautification, water, and other activities identified in the green team plan identified during spring semester. Participation in the Utah Pride Parade, optional. This is a great option for those who want to condense their internship hours into 4-5 weeks.

Option available to split hours between spring and summer semester.
