2005 - 2006 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL / THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS CYCLING TEAM 1

THE 2005-2006 SEASON presents the opportunity for the

University of Texas Cycling Club to continue to ride a

trend of growth in numbers, excellence in racing and

impact on the cycling world and the local community.

Cycling itself as both a sport and recreational activity is also

growing. Fueled by a revived interest in professional cycling due

to Lance Armstrong’s unprecedented six straight Tour de France

victories and also a renewed interest in physical fitness in the U.S.,

the number of cyclists on the road and trails is growing at a massive

rate. Within the world of competition, collegiate cycling is gaining

importance serving as a spring board for many professional cyclists

including former UT Cycling Club members, Ian Dille of Kodak/

Sierra Nevada and Sarah Faulkner of Sportsbook.com. Our cycling

team has both benefited and contributed to this growth and during

the past year we have seen our membership double. That growth

along with increased commitment and dedication from our racers

yielded impressive results for the season. These included a South

Central Collegiate Cycling Conference Championship in Track,

several individual victories in races and a return to Collegiate Road

Cycling Nationals for the first time in two years. The upcoming

season looks promising as we return three of four riders that went to

nationals and are gaining two top riders from transfers. With these

riders along with those developing we will be in top contention for

both conference and national titles. Equaling our successes on the

blacktops of Texas and all over the country was our club becoming

an ambassador of cycling to both our University and the local Austin

community as we introduced many to cycling and racing.

Cycling is steadily becoming a prominent sport in the United States,

and as this occurs the University of Texas Cycling Club is steadily

coming to dominate the collegiate ranks. We appreciate your

interest in sponsorship, and welcome you to take a few minutes to

look through our sponsorship packet.

HIGHLIGHTS

2005 - 2006 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL / THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS CYCLING TEAM2

Why Cycling?

With more than 70 million cyclists in the United States, cycling is the number one sport of doctors and lawyers over the age of forty and the number two most popular participation sport: more than golf, skiing, tennis, and snowboarding combined.1 This statistic comes as a surprise to many because cycling is not a widely televised sport, although Outdoor Life Network (OLN) television station has made some headway in changing that image. Last year, over 11 million spectators with an average household income of $91,100 watched a cycling

Demographics of Cycling

Becoming involved with our program has the potential to create immediate impact with customers. Why? Because the program allows for the development of campaigns that are one-on-one According to a leading industry publication, cycling attracts a rather enviable demographic:

The University of Texas Cycling Club exists as a highly diversified sports clubat one of the nation’s largest universities. The University of Texas was recently recognized by Sports Illustrated as the best University for sports and the cycling club definitely contributesto this accolade. While Collegiate Cycling is not an NCAA sanctioned varsity sport, it is highly developed, includes many schools with programs that are run as if they were varsity and receives national media attention. Our club competes in all areas including mountain biking, track, road and cyclocross, but while racing is a major focus of the club, we also seek to promote cycling, fitness and safety within our University and city’s community.

RACING »

Although racing is only one aspect of our team, we take pride in community involvement and promotion of cycling safety awareness. For the upcoming year, we are planning a bike rodeo and safety event in conjunction with the UT Police Department. The event will focus on cycling safety and promote physical fitness and junior competitve cycling.

Members of the club participate in the two yearly Multiple Sclerosis 150 rides (Dallas-Austin and Houston-Austin), a 150+ mile ride to raise money for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis, and theannual Ride for the Roses in Austin (Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer awareness). In addition, we help clean up Austin road sides through a local Adopt-a-Road program.

COMMUNITY CHARITIES »

Our team competes in the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference (SCCCC) consisting of 18 schools including major universities such as Texas A&M and Baylor. Within the SCCCC, we compete in all four of the major cycling disciplines – Road, Mountain Biking, Track and Cyclocross. Both men and women compete in categories based on their skill level. The beginner categories, ‘C’ in men’s and ‘B’ in women’s, serve as the perfect opportunity for people new to cycling to start racing, and the top ‘A’ category consists of riders at the top of the sport.

This past year, like previous years, we excelled in three areas of competition. We dominated the Conference Track Championships - hosted at the Alkek Velodrome in Houston - winning many of the individual events and taking home the Overall Conference Championship. In the Conference Road Championships we finished a solid second place, doubling the third place team in points, and broughthome several individual victories. The same went for Mountain Biking as we brought home third place and had numerous individual victories. With another solid team coming together, we have set our sights on winning conference in both road and mountain biking and sending teams to Nationals that will contend for podium positions.

In 1998, club member Paul Read along with other top riders captured two Road National Championships in the criterium and in the greatly competitive team time trial. Also, one of the most special and important thing the club does for gifted athletes is provide the opportunity for them to pursue the sport at the next level. Most recently, the two-time All-American in 2000 and 2001, Ian Dille, launched his professional cycling career with the Kodak EasyShare Gallery/Sierra Nevada Professional Cycling Team. Dille was not the first pro rider UT has produced, and will certainly not be the last.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Your financial support, monetary or productdeals, is essential to the success of our club.

The cost of racing - which includes race fees, travel and accommodations - quickly absorbs available club funds. At times, this situation forces an individual student athlete to carry the financial burden. Since many students must often budget their money, it isdifficult for them to cover these expenses. Your support ensures that every student whowants to race, will be able to race.

Hosting races also levies a substantial financial burden on club funds. Expensesfor races includes securing a venue, providing for safety and traffic control and raceraccommodations. Last year, we hosted a criterium race on campus beneath the shadows of D.K.R. - Texas Memorial Stadium. This race would not have been possible without the generous support from our sponsors.

Additionally, financial support helps with our social and community activities byproviding more opportunities to attend and assist at bicycle related functions and community charities. Equipment sponsors help offset the incurred cost by each rider such as bicycles, clothes, equipment and incidental items related to cycling. Services, such as volunteer & professional help, can also be of indispensable use to our team.

As our team is a non-profit 501c(3) organization, your sponsorship is taxdeductible. Monetary sponsors are guaranteed a spot on the University of Texas Cycling jersey. Sizing on the jersey varies upon the commitment level of the company, but all sponsors automatically receive a natural association with a health-oriented sport and The University of Texas.

Due to the beautiful weather in Austin, our riders are able to ride virtually all year and average 500 hours of riding every year. With a club of 60-plus riders, your business receives 30,000 hours of “rolling billboards”

1 Companies must provide a logo in vector art format

2005 - 2006 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL / THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS CYCLING TEAM4

In addition to our rides, we compete in the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference races, United States Cycling Federation and National events with up to several thousand spectators at the larger events. Over the course of a year, this means a substantial amount of consumers will witness our riders crossing the finish line with their armsstretched out in victory with your company’s logo emblazoned on the UT jersey.

Finally, we host road and mountain bike races and as well as bike rodeos every year attended by several hundred cyclists. Should you be interested in helping us with the events, you will receive the title sponsorship in the “[Your Company] Bicycle Race, presented by The University of Texas.” This name will be posted on every racing calendar, the UT and SCCCC website and listserv, event t-shirts, in bike shops in Texas, and all media covering the event.

For fans and club members alike, we have a website and listserv for those interested in the University of Texas Cycling Club. The website includes maps of local bike routes, club information and a webstore through which we sell UT Cycling merchandise. With

these features, the website receives tens of thousands of hits each month. Sponsors will receive inclusion of company logo, links and banners on the website. Beyond these basic benefits, we can display products atraces, distribute literature to spectators, and promote your company through our activities.

Sponsoring a cycling team is a unique yet cost effective way to advertise your business.
