About Romania

Romania lies in the central South-Eastern part o the European continent. With a sur ace o approximately238,000 km2 and a population o 21,5 million inhabitants, it is one o the medium-sized countries o Europeand the 7th country in the EU. Romania’s neighbours are Moldavia, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria andthe Black Sea Coast.

Romania, a semi-presidential republic, with a bicameral Parliament, joined the European Union in 2007.

Te geographical position and the historical evolution o this territory imposed it as an archetype o mix-tures between relatively different cultures: Western-European, East-European and Balkan. Tis historicalreality has been materialized into a special type o general behaviour that mani ests itsel through the peo-ple’s tolerance, hospitality and communication easiness.

Te peculiarities o the physical space come rom the relatively circular disposition and rom the roughlyequal proportion o each major orm o relie : mountains, hills and plains that cover each 1/3 o the sur ace.Besides, we can add the presence o the navigable Danube, which ensures the direct link with the NorthernSea through the Rhine-Danube canal. Te Danube Delta is one o the natural reserves under international

protection due to its unique ora and auna, which are among the richest in Europe.Romania is 2 hours ahead of GM . Te average annual temperatures vary between 22-24 Celsius degreesduring summer and between -3 and -5 Celsius degrees in winter. While the average annual temperaturesare about 11 Celsius degrees in the southern part o Romania, in north there are about 8 Celsius degrees, the variations being caused by the distribution o the relie in latitude and altitude.
