Truman the Tiger
• Originally, MU had two tiger mascots, a male and a female, but neither had a specific identity. A contest to name the mascot was held in 1984. The winner, a student, submitted the name Truman.
• He was born in 1986 and named after Harry S. Truman, 33rd president of the United States.
• He is a Bengal Tiger

• Men’s basketball is ranked number 13 in the nation!
• November 7, 2011 Mizzou joined the SEC Conference.

Freshmen Grades/Test Scores• As a freshmen admissions requires at least a 24 ACT Composite
score or a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1090 or higher. Mizzou average ACT: 25.7 (state 21.6; national 21.1)
• Anything less than a 24, students must be able to show academic excellence in their core GPA and Class rank.
• Mizzou looks highly upon Academic GPA, Class Rank, and Standardized Test Scores.

Scholarships
• Excellence Award: ACT 27-36 or SAT 1210-1600 top 25% for $2,000 or top 50% for $1,000
• Curators Scholars Award: ACT score of 28 or higher, top 5% of high school graduating class, $3,500
• Mizzou Scholars Award: ACT Score of 33 or higher , $10,000 per year.
• Chancellor’s Scholarship: ACT Score of 33 or higher, full fees, room, board, and books for the year.
• All can be renewed for an additional three years.

History• The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia,
Mo., as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first university in Thomas Jefferson’s Louisiana Purchase territory.
• The Academic Hall which was the first building on Mizzou’s Campus. January 9th 1892 a fire destroyed the Academic Hall and the columns were all that remained. The most well known place on campus is the columns.
• Graduation Ceremony is held there. Seniors get to walk out of the columns symbolizing the connection they will have as an alumni.

Legend of the Journalism School Archway
• While two students were bragging about cheating on an exam, the dean of the school heard them from his office above and failed both students. Now any student walking under this archway should always speak in a whisper. If they don’t, they risk failing their next exam.

Legend of the Engineering Shamrock
• The patio outside Lafferre Hall is home to the stone shamrock symbol of engineering. It is said that you are destined to marry an engineer if you walk across this embedded stone.

Peace Park
• MU legend says that when you walk across the bridge in Peace Park with your sweetheart, you are destined to fall in love and get married.

David R. Francis’ Nose
• As tribute to former governor of Missouri and a great proponent of the University, David R. Francis, a statue of stands just northeast of the entrance to Jesse Hall. It is said that when a student rubs his nose, they’ll get an “A” on their next exam.
