We continue tobecentred onanalysing social
change thematically in exploringaspects of
social justice, human rights, theconstitution
of citizenship andurbanandsocial inequalities.
Weplacecontemporary issuesalongside
historical processes in developing a social
scientific imaginationamongour students.

How you learnWhilst studying in the department, youwill
spend anaverage ofabout eight hours aweek
in face-to-face teaching, the rest of your study
timewill bespent in libraries or inother forms
of self-directedstudy. Youwill be supportedthroughout bya Personal Tutor.

is called Interchangeand through this everystudent will have the opportunity to choose
modules that allow themtodevelop their
sociologicalskills in real-life settings aspart
of ourApplied SocialResearch placements
with voluntary sectororganisations in and
around the region (for example,working
with the homeless, young peopleand
Liverpool Student Community Action).

CV! Secondand third year studentshave the
opportunity of placementswith a variety of
organisations.
How you are assessedMostmodules are assessedbymeans of a
mixtureof essays andexaminations. Typically,
amodule inYear Twomight involve a 4,000
wordessay ora 2,500word essay plus
a one hour examination.Somemodules are
assessedwholly or in part byother appropriate
means, suchas the preparation ofprojects
and individual or grouppresentations.The finaldegreeclass isbased onYear Twoand Three
marks,weighted in favour ofYear Threemarks.
Over the last few years themajorityofour
