WHY UK SCHOOL OF MUSIC?The University of Kentucky School of Music is internationally recognized for excellence in performance, music education and research in music. For almost 100 years, the School has helped musicians prepare for careers as performers, educators, researchers, and a wide array of leadership positions both in and outside of the field of music. More than 400 music majors benefit from world-class teaching and the broad academic offerings of a major university. Students have abundant opportunities to participate in prestigious ensembles – from orchestras to choirs to the Wildcat Marching Band – that perform throughout the U.S. and the world.

FACULTY:Integral to a top School of Music is a great faculty. The UK School of Music is comprised of 48 full-time faculty in residence that include internationally acclaimed performers, scholars, and teachers who have dedicated their lives to nurturing young talent, guiding students to attain success in a wide range of careers. Students benefit from special care offered by the faculty as well as the guest artists and conductors, clinicians, and lecturers who visit our campus.

AUDITIONS: All entering students intending to enroll as an undergraduate music major or minor are required to perform an admissions audition for the School of Music. Auditions for fall admission are typically held in January, February and March.

FACILITIES:Most on-campus performances presented by the School take place in the Singletary Center for the Arts in either the 1424 seat Concert Hall or the 349 seat Recital Hall. Adjacent to the Fine Arts Building, that houses classrooms, practice rooms and faculty studios, is the Lucille Caudill Little Fine Arts Library that contains collections relevant to art, music and theatre. The renovated Schmidt Vocal Arts Center is the home of the UK Opera Theatre program. All School of Music facilities are centrally located in the heart of campus.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM:There are many opportunities for students to study abroad and, last year, nearly 16% of the students in the UK College of Fine Arts did so. New international initiatives are being forged allowing students to spend a week to an entire year abroad. Most notably are recent tours by the UK Symphony Orchestra to China and the UK Chorale to Northern Italy. There are also many outreach programs and activities of the School that provide opportunities for students to both teach and perform beyond the UK campus.
