University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior Dancers 2014-2015Thank you for inquiring about the University of Hawaii Dance Team. Included in this audition packet is information regarding the UH Dance Team rules and responsibilities, judging criteria and process, videotape audition instructions, and audition information sheet. Please read over this information carefully and note the following guidelines.You must be accepted to the University of Hawaii prior to August 2013 to be considered for the 2014- 2015 team. Any delay will place a hold on your audition process. The admission process takes approximately three weeks.If you are auditioning by videotape, your videotape, audition information sheet, an unofficial transcript or a copy of last report card, two letters of recommendation, and a current photo of yourself must be in our office by May 2014 to be considered for the 2014-2015 team. Please see the videotape audition instruction sheet for details. Videotapes received after this date will be reviewed and subject to a waiting list. The tryout judging criteria for the across the floor segment and the dance combinations will include, but are not limited to the following: Performance skills and facial expressions Comprehension of material Ability to conform to style Overall/general jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, cheer styles Cleanliness of lines and attention to details Execution Level of technique2. During the personal interview segment, each dancer will be asked a series of questions by a panel of judges. Please explain the strongest qualities you possess that would contribute to a successful collegiate dance team. Please explain your biggest weakness Please explain why you would like to be a member of the Dance Team. Please describe your short and long-term goals both personally and as a dance team member.3. The total points awarded for each segment will be averaged out and the final score determined as follows (subject to change) Cheer segment 10% Personal interview 20% Across the floor, technique segment 30% Dance Combinations 40%VIDEOTAPE AUDITION INSTRUCTIONSPlease submit audition material on a standard DVD-R. This recording will become the property of UH and will not be returned.1. Introduction: The beginning of your videotape should include your home address, phone number, and the name of the high school or college you currently attend. Please also label your video and video cover with this information.2. Personal Interview (1-2minutes): Please explain the strongest qualities you possess that would contribute to a successful collegiate dance team. Please explain your biggest weakness Please explain why you would like to be a member of the Dance Team. Please describe your short and long-term goals both personally and as a dance team member.3. Dance Routines: All three of the following styles must be submitted in order for your audition to be considered and judged. Your choreography and technical skills should be at an advanced level. Dance routines must only feature the individual who is auditioning and be recorded after January 1, 2014. Group or team recordings are not acceptable and will not be judged. Failure to do so will disqualify your audition. Please wear dance clothes that show your body placement and lines. 16 counts of 8 of a jazz routine 16 counts of 8 of a hip-hop routine 16 counts of 8 of a cheer routine4. Across the Floor Exercise: Your selection of across the floor exercises should be performed both right and left. Failure to do so will disqualify your audition. Please choreograph and perform an advanced level combination for each of the following... Triple pirouettes, inside leg hold turns Fouette and a la second turns Switch leaps, leaps in second, and chaines calypso to the floor Please include any other skills/tricks to demonstrate your talents. Your videotape, audition information sheet, 2 letters of recommendation (written from individuals in the dance profession), and current photo of yourself must be in our office by Friday April 26, 2013 to be considered for the 2013-2014 team.
