ASSIST’s Role in the UC TCA Process
• Be sure the courses you are submitting are already in the ASSIST curriculum database including:
changes to course numbers, titles and unit valuesCross-listed courses need only be added into OSCAR in one of the disciplinesIf ASSIST does not have this information, we can not make a decision in OSCAR and the course will not appear on your TCA
• Course changes linked in ASSIST appropriately will activate the “formerly” function to identify when one course number becomes another
• Also it’s important to remember that if you are deleting a course from your TCA you need to be sure the course has been deleted from the ASSIST curriculum database

When Your TCA is Finalized
• I will send an e-mail notification indicating the status of those courses proposed along with any other information relating to your TCA (you should generally receive this within 30 days of your submission)
• At that point you will be able to access your published TCA on Web ASSIST at: www.assist.org
• Please verify that your published TCA matches the results sent to you

Variable Topics and Independent Study
• Variable topics courses (objectives and content which vary from term-to-term, and where the outline lacks textbooks, novels, films). These courses need to be submitted and results will be noted on your email notification, but will not appear on your TCA.
• Independent study courses (an arrangement between faculty and student) are not reviewed during the TCA process. UC will generally grant credit post-admission upon petition only.
– Exception: if the independent course credit is needed for junior-level transferability, an admission evaluator may request the syllabus and other documentation in order to determine if the course is transferable during the application evaluation process.
