Artist Biographies

Eric Troiano joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2016.He maintains an active teaching and performing career as a soloist and chambermusician. He has been a guest artist at numerous places including Ithaca College,Central Michigan University, Oakland University, Interlochen Center for the Arts,and many other high schools around Michigan and New York. As a memberof the Viridian Saxophone Quartet, he performs regularly across the country.The Viridian Quartet has won top prizes in North American Saxophone AllianceQuartet Competition, the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, ColemanChamber Music Competition, and the MTNA Chamber Music Competition.

An advocate for new music, Eric Troiano has premiered and commissionedmany new pieces for the saxophone and saxophone quartet, including pieces bycomposers Andrew Francis, Peter Golub, Justin Rito, Curtis Smith, among others.

As an accomplished baritone saxophonist, Dr. Troiano has pioneered manysolo and chamber works for the instrument. He is in the process of creating apedagogical method for the baritone saxophone that utilizes the work of J.S.Bach to teach techniques of playing the instrument.

A native of Connecticut, Troiano received a bachelor of music in music educationand saxophone performance from Ithaca College, a master of music in saxophoneperformance from Michigan State University, and completed -his doctorate insaxophone performance from Michigan State University. His primary teachersinclude Joseph Lulloff and Steven Mauk.

Pianist Tomoko Kashiwagi, a native of Japan, began her piano studies at the ageof 6. She completed her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees as wellas the Performer Diploma in Piano Performance at Indiana University. She is thefirst recipient of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano fromthe University of Texas at Austin.

During the summers, she has served as a staff pianist at the Interlochen ArtsCamp and was the piano faculty at the Ithaca College Suzuki Institute. Currently,she spends the summer at Meadowmount School of Music where gifted stringplayers gather from around the world. Ms. Kashiwagi served as a piano facultyat the Austin Chamber Music Center and worked as a staff pianist as well as theProgram Coordinator for the Collaborative Piano Program at the Butler Schoolof Music at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been the official pianist atthe International Society of Bassists Conventions as well as MTNA competitions.

Ms. Kashiwagi joined the faculty at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville asInstructor of Piano and Collaborative Piano in Fall 2012.

Ronda Mains is professor of flute/music education and chair of the departmentof music. She is principal flutist of the North Arkansas Symphony and performerwith the Lyrique Quintette, Cholthichanta/Mains Duo, and Zephyr Trio. Dr.Mains has appeared as a soloist with the North Arkansas Symphony, Universityof Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony, Oregon Winds, BoiseSummer Symphony, the Treasure Valley Wind Ensemble, and the Boise StateUniversity Symphony and Wind Ensemble. She has performed solo and chambermusic nationally and abroad; in 1998, she performed at the National FluteConvention in Phoenix, Arizona. An advocate of contemporary music, Dr. Mainshas been actively involved in commissioning and recording new works with herchamber groups. She can be heard with Novaria on a CD featuring new musicfor flute and guitar and with the Lyrique Quintette on a CD entitled SomethingOld, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. Asa member of thequintet, she has been involved in editing transcriptions for quintets. Dr. Mains isthe author of several articles.
