The Unfortunate Truth?

Yet the government has allowed pharma companies to advertise opioids to doctors until as recently as

June 2018 as part of a national drug strategy.

There is little evidence that recent government advertising campaigns

have made an impact. The number of opioid related deaths in Canada has increased by 34%.

But despite these alarming numbers, there is hope in the battle against opioids.

That’s more than 2X the HIV Epidemic of 1995 (1,750).

And in the U.S., more people die

from opioid abuse every year

than from car accidents or breast cancer.

Many of these cases involve legitimate prescriptions from medical providers.

Canada’s national drug strategy includes $100million of funding over

five years in response to the opioid crisis.

The problem? Government response has been reactionary and fails to provide people with long
