Uniting has been supporting older people in Inner West Sydney for more than 40 years.

Uniting Aldersgate, our warm and welcoming aged care home in Lilyfield, has recently been extensively renovated to accommodate 98 residents within 4 home-style settings. We call it household living, and it’s based on the latest thinking in residential aged care.

Household living gives you the freedom and flexibility to do the things you love, when you choose. Single rooms and shared rooms all have ensuites, and every bedroom is connected to a shared living area and kitchen. Each household is supported by a dedicated Uniting Homemaker.

One of our Aldersgate households also offers added memory support in a specially designed dementia-friendly environment.

Frequently asked questions.What can family and friends do when they come to visit?Enjoy a latte in our café, play a game of cards or Scrabble, have a family BBQ or walk to the surrounding parks. There is plenty for visitors to see and do.

When are visiting hours?Open visiting is warmly invited, though we maintain privacy and dignity for all residents by making special arrangements with the care team for visits outside of regular hours.

Can residents go out for the day?Yes, it’s good for residents to have a change of scene. Some planning and supervision is required, so just let us know in advance and together we’ll make suitable arrangements.

Can residents continue to see their own doctor?Yes of course, provided they are willing to come and visit. Alternatively, we have a list of accredited General Practitioners who can visit as needed.

What about medication?For residents who can safely take their own medication, it can certainly continue. All rooms have wardrobes fitted with a locked drawer where you can store your medication, otherwise our team are on hand to assist with any medication.

Are all meals provided?Yes, all meals are provided and we offer a second choice for mains so that everyone enjoys their meal.

Are any additional services available?Yes, for a small daily fee (on top of the daily care fee) residents can receive extra benefits with a Lifestyle Plus package. Some of the added services available at Aldersgate include wine or beer with meals, and 24/7 access to a fully-stocked household kitchenette for round-the-clock snacks, tea and coffee. It also includes extras like regular arts and crafts classes, and access to our book and DVD library. Talk with us to find out more.

Is there internet access?Uniting provides free internet access for all residents.

Can residents have their own furniture?Yes, of course, we want everyone to feel very much at home. We encourage residents to customise their room with their belongings and to add personal touches such as music, a TV, photos, pictures, simple furnishings and bedspreads or doonas. We do insist that our beds are used, as they’re electrically operated for occupational health and safety reasons. We also discourage rugs as they can be a hazard for tripping.

Does Uniting take care of laundry?All linen and towels are supplied and laundered by a private contractor. Staff at Aldersgate will collect laundry and return it weekly, or more frequently if needed. For residents who prefer to wash their own clothes, our laundry, irons and ironing boards are available to use.

What other services do residents have to pay for?Residents are responsible for costs associated with any medications, the café, the hair and beauty salon, and some outings.

Does Uniting Aldersgate offer support for people living with dementia?Yes, we have a dedicated memory support unit for residents living with dementia, staffed by specialist carers.
