English for USV-JSC SYLLABUS
PREFACE:
Welcome. This Course Outline and Syllabus has been carefully designed to help you in your
efforts to successfully comprehend the course material and be prepared for each session of
class. The syllabus will help you keep on track with assignments and prepare for oral quizzes
and demonstrations. To achieve the greatest success in the course, we suggest you attend and
participate in every session. If you have any questions please address them to your instructor.
The Syllabus includes the following sections:

1. PURPOSE OF THE COURSE: Our Goal is to create an ESL program that will benefit individuals with limited English speaking skills by creating class room and hands on applications with the use of PowerPoint and hand- outs. This will enable them to become more effective in verbal and non-verbal skills.
2. ORGANIZATION OF THE COURSE: Each session will contain topics covered in normal USV-JSC procedures for volunteers, Including:
Name of Organization
Commands written and verbal
Order of Service at the cemetery
Review Words of all procedures and protocols
Basic phonics review
Flag and empty cartridges presentation
Proper wear of the uniform
Understanding forms (monthly and quarterly reports)
Reciting the USV-JSC mission 3. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Class will concentrate on basic protocols and procedures using pictures and PowerPoint Presentations, as well as practical demonstrations when appropriate. 4. COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. To give the student an understanding of English words and commands. 2. To give student’s tools to help them understand the USV-JSC language. 3. To give the student a clear understanding of procedural commands and protocols. 5. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Assignments for the Course: Class work only Final: upon completion of level one, student shall demonstrate an understanding of English commands. Practice Phonic exercises SESSION TWO: Basic Commands (using handouts and pronunciation) Attention, Present Arms, Order Arms, Parade Rest. Review words of all Basic Commands SESSION THREE: Continuing Pronunciation and Identification Taps, Folding of Flag, Bugler, Color Guard, Firing Party-3 Volleys SESSION Four: Proper wear of Uniform, correct placement of Ribbons, medals, etc... SESSION FIVE: Folding of the Flag Reciting flag and empty cartridges presentation by memory
*A senior NCO/Trainer shall do the final check off for level 1 *
