WHAT IS THEDISTINCTIVE COMMUNICATOR AWARD

FOR WEBSITES?

criteria qualify• Webmasters know results through their copy

of all their website reviews• Award recommendations made in November

WHAT CRITERIA?

• Include:- ITCom standards for all USPS websites- Multiple areas that address website ability to communicate USPS message

• All criteria defined on Evaluation Form• Evaluation/recommendation process

explained as attachment to Evaluation Form

SOMETHING IMPORTANT

• An active link between USPS website and the squadron or district website MUST exist. This is not related to any link that may exist between district website and squadron website.

• No link or link de-activated? We cannot review or otherwise look at your website.

NO LINK? WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

• Most often the district’s Form OD-1 or squadron’s OD-2 does NOT have an IT Chair or IT Contact identified.

• Some times, but not often, problem due to URL having been moved without coordinating with ITCom.

• Several automated email sent to commanders prior to link deactivation.

WHY IS USPS LINK IMPORTANT?• USPS website first place others go looking for

a district or squadron.- Includes “cyber squadron” members looking

for a squadron to join.• Active links enable others to go right to your

website.• Without active link others may not find your

district or your squadron.• Absence of link can affect recruiting efforts.

WHAT’S NEXT?• Website Evaluation Form on CommCom

website and can be downloaded at http://www.usps.org/national/commcom/ccWebEvalFm.pdf

• Review evaluation categories• Use the Guidelines on the last page to

understand the process• Contact your Adviser for any questions,

comments or suggestions

THE GOOD NEWS?

• Websites are reviewed at least 2 times each year

• Results are always emailed to the webmaster.• Webmasters encouraged to communicate

with Advisers• Final review and award recommendation in

November

NOT RECOMMENDED?• Webmasters have opportunity to interact with

their Adviser after each and every review/evaluation. This is the time to ask questions.

• Not able to resolve?- Commander should contact Assistant Chair responsible for websites.- Appeal should be resolved at earliest possible date to allow for review and decision not later than 30 November
