Transcript of United nations project
Imagine, having to wake up every morning, and walking kilometres to get unsanitary water to
drink. Imagine, seeing your family, friends, and even yourself being affected physically by the water that
you are drinking, but not having any other options to survive other than drinking that dirty, unsanitary
water. Imagine, not being able to wash your hands in clean water after doing tasks such as going to the
washroom, working with animals, picking up garbage etc. Imagine? About 1 billion people don’t have to.
They live with an insufficient water supply; this is where the United Nations steps in.
Firstly, what is the United Nations Organization? The United Nations is an organization that was
founded in 1945 after World War II. The United Nations was created by fifty-one countries that were
committed to maintaining international peace, security; develop relations between nations across the
world, and improving living standards and human rights. Since 1945, there are now over eighty
countries involved with the United Nations.
Clean water is so easily found in Canada but not every where else in the world. Even though
some water does look clean doesn’t mean it is sanitary. About 4,500 children around the world die each
and every day because the water they are drinking isn’t sanitary. They have no other choices of what to
drink because most of the communities that the children are from are so poor that they have no money
to sanitize the body of water or well that they are getting the water from. It doesn’t just end with the
kids having no water it is just the beginning; half of the people in the developing world don’t have water
to have proper sanitation. It is horrible how not everyone is able to have a basic necessary need such as
water, but what is being done to change this?
What has and what are the United Nations been doing to improve the water sanitation
problem? The United Nations has created an event called the “Decade of Water for Life”. This event has
been going since 2005 and will continue till 2015. The “Decade of Water for Life” is an event created
through the United Nations, and the goal is to get international efforts to get commitments to help the
water and sanitation problem from countries from all over the world. There are also other ways that
the United Nations has helped less fortunate people in the world receive a basic need such as water.

The United Nations has helped less fortunate people all over the world receive clean, drinkable,
sanitary water in order to survive and thrive as humans should all have, no matter if you are rich, poor,
where you were born, or your race, water is a necessity not a privilege for everyone on this earth. The
United Nations has people in the organization called Peace Keepers and they travel all over the
developing countries and help them. The Peace Keepers do duties such as get areas set up to collect
rain water, they find ways to protect springs and already made wells, they also build stand pipes.
The United Nations is a great organization. They help so many people in so many ways they do
so many things other than helping people around the world. They have done so many great things in
the world like unite countries from all corners of the earth and they also have helped a lot of people
receive water. Image, a world without people having to fight for water.
