UN has 193 member states
The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization whose stated aims include promoting and facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, political freedoms, democracy, and the achievement of lasting world peace.
The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions.

UN has six official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

The current Secretary-General is Ban-Ki–moon. Ban Ki-moon (born 13 June 1944) is the eighth and current Secretary-General of the United Nations, after succeeding Kofi Annan in 2007.

World Health Organisation
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. WHO is a member of the United Nations Development Group.
The World Food Programme (WFP), is the food assistance branch of the United Nations, and it is the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger. WFP provides food, on average, to 90 million people per year, 58 million of whom are children. From its headquarters in Rome and more than 80 country offices around the world, WFP works to help people who are unable to produce or obtain enough food for themselves and their families. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group and part of its Executive Committee.
The United Nations Children's Fund is a United Nations Programme headquartered in New York City, that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee. UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II.

India was a founding member of the United Nations, joining in October 1945. In 1953, the chief delegate of India at the time, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was elected the first woman President of the UN General Assembly. India has a permanent mission to the UN, which is led by the Permanent Representative (UN Ambassador), currently Asoke Kumar Mukerji, since April 16, 2013.

Under the United Nations Development Action Framework 2013-17, we have focused our collective engagement in nine states in India: Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; also known as ‘UNDAF’ States.

The United Nations Development Action Framework(UNDAF) 2013-17 guides the collective work of the United Nations in India.
The UNDAF has six broad outcomes: Inclusive Growth, Food and Nutrition Security, Gender Equality, Equitable Access to Quality Basic Services, Governance, and Sustainable Development.
Peacekeeping
India is regular contributor to United Nations peacekeeping missions. The number of troops contributing to UN peacekeeping operations as of March 2007 were 9,471. It also suffered the death of 127 soldiers, who died while serving on peacekeeping missions. India also provided army contingent for performing peacekeeping operations in Sri Lanka between 1987 and 1990 as Indian Peace Keeping Force. In November 1988, India also helped restore the government of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in the Maldives under Operation Cactus.
