Notes from the Secretariat

1. The following List of Addresses of Experts on Geographical Names is a Mailing List that the Secretariat has used for recent mailings such as the UNGEGN Newsletter. It should not be confused with the List of Participants for the Nineteenth Session of the Group of Experts and the Seventh United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names.

2. It is intended to update this List with the data received on the Registration Forms from Participants of the Nineteenth Session and the Seventh Conference and mail it out with the next UNGEGN Newsletter.

3. The List is not only useful as a mailing list for the Secretariat, it is also intended to facilitate direct contacts between experts.

4. You will understand that it is- not easy for the Secretariat to keep this list up to date and therefore, we are asking you for your assistance. This concerns in particular addresses of those experts shown in the list, that are no longer active in the work of names standardization, be it that they have retired or that they have been transferred to other working areas.

5. On the other hand, there are some retired experts, who are still interested to stay in touch with the activities on Geographical Names and would like to receive mailings from the United Nations. It seems appropriate to use their private home address for such mailings. If you know of such interested retires and their home addresses, please check the list and let the Secretariat know whether there are any changes to be made.

6. You will note, that in many oases fax and e-mail addresses are missing. Please supply those, if you can.

7. Please do not limit your checking of the list to the entries concerning your own name and address data. You know many other experts and their addresses, of whom you think, they would belong onto this list, or who appear there with incomplete or incorrect entries but who are not participating at the Seventh Conference in New York. Please provide the relevant corrections and additions.

8. During the Conference you may give your notes to Ms. Jennifer Javier in the Conference office or to Mr. Hans Stabe. Thereafter, please e-mail them to stabe@un.org or fax them to Hans Stabe, fax No.: INT-1-212-963-1270.
