UNiTE Campaign launches “The Brave is not Violent” communication strategy intended to mobili-
ze Young men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean
The Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE, launched, on April 25, its new communication strategy inten-
ded to young men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean. This strategy aims to raise awareness
among youngsters promoting social change towards equality between men and women, emphasizing the
responsibility young men have to end the violence against women.
“The Brave is not Violent” will be implemented in different countries of the region, led by the UN Country
Teams and will comprise regional activities and initiatives. This will favor changes in attitudes of the Latin
America and Caribbean’s young men for building societies free of violence against women.
Cuba has been the first country to implement the campaign, where UN and the Ibero-American and African
Masculinity Network (RIAM) have been in charge of carrying out the actions.

UNiTE Latin American Youth Network attended the Dominican Republic Model United Nations
Conference
The UNiTE Latin American Youth Network attended the Dominican Republic Model United Nations Conference in New York
(NYDRMUN 2013) to present their work and activities. To raise awareness and to show the work that the youngsters have been
carrying out, last 22nd
of March the UNiTE’s Youth Network for Latin America and the Caribbean presented the campaign that
focused on promoting prevention and awareness actions to eradicate violence against women.
Academia Network Consulting joins the UNiTE Cam-
paign
Academia Network Consulting (ACN), joins the UNiTE Campaign.
This company that has been dedicated for several years to network
marketing is now committed to continue publishing the monthly elec-
tronic gazette for the Orange Day, where the UNiTE Campaign is pro-
moted and issues addressing masculinity are including where they
claim “The orange day is also a men’s issue”.
April’s Orange Day dedicated to “Safe Places
for Women and Girls "
This year we will be using our Orange Day actions to highlight
recommendations from the agreed conclusions of the 57th
session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
and in the framework of safe work spaces/places for women
and girls. We will start this month by highlighting “Safe Places
for Women and Girls ".

Young commitment for Gender non-violence in
Cuba
In Cuba, the participants in the
10th Training Workshop for young
promoters of sexual education
personally commit to say NO to
gender-based violence. The
workshop, held between April 22nd
and 26th is part of the joint work
between CENESEX and the United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA). On 25th on the occasion of Orange Day, a session
on gender-based violencewas held. Orange Day is an initia-
tive of the UNiTE’s Global Youth Network for raising aware-
ness and leading advocacy actions to end violence against
women and girls all months of the year.

Walk and reflections in favor of the elimination of violence in Córdoba, Argentina
This 25th of April, as in all months since October of 2012, the UNiTE Campaign, in cooperation with other
organizations committed with the eradication of violence against women, carried out an awareness activi-
ty. A walk was carried out that ended with the release of balloons as a symbolic gesture, asking for a life
free of violence against women. A debate and open-space panel was also organized for to give a chance
to everyone to discuss and participate.

CENESEX calls to join efforts in Cuba
On the occasion of March’s Orange Day, the National Center for Sexual Education (Cenesex) called to join efforts in “a National
Cuban Campaign showing that violence against women is a health, social and human rights problem, and helping society to
integrate and overcome the gender equity gaps”.

In Nicaragua the Anthology “Mujer y Poes-
ía” (“Women and Poetry”) against violence is
featured
Nicaragua.- As a contribution to “UNiTEto
End Violence against Women Campaign”,
promoted by the UN Secretary-General,
Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the UN System in Nicara-
gua, especially UN Women, supported last 18th of March the
launching of the Anthology “Mujer y Poesía”, a compilation
made by the poet Christian Santos. The work comprises po-
ems against violence against women, written by 31 male and

Cuba launches the Campaign The Brave is not
Violent
With the core message “The brave is not violent”, the initiative
of the LAC Chapter of the UNiTE Campaign is being imple-
mented in the country with the support of the Ibero-American
and African Masculinity Network (RIAM). It i will be accompa-
nied by members of UNiTE’s Artist Network that, since last
year, have started to beinvolved with RIAM in its efforts to
support non-violence. For its launching, a video clip from the
Cuban singer Rochy Ameneiro, from UNiTE’s Artist Network,
was featured in the headquartes of Casa del Alba. l The spot
“The Brave is not violent” was shown, produced as a result of
the network work workshops and different advocacy actions; it
includes declarations and images from singers David Blanco,
Elaín Morales, Rochy Ameneiro, the pianist Rodrigo García
and the former forward football player Leonel Duarte of the

UNDP celebrates in Cuba a new Orange Day
It started with a concert of the Group Balance and the Jazz Band of the elementary school of music Manuel
Saumell. The following day, in UNDP’s offices, the same students played pieces of the national and internatio-
nal traditional music repertoire. Further, the prizes for the contest promoted in the Office for teenage relatives
of our colleagues were awarded, they participated with drawings and compositions on the negative impact of
violence and with positive messages to face this regrettable situation.
