UNiTE Campaign launches “The Brave is not Violent” communication strategy intended to mobili- ze Young men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean The Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE, launched, on April 25, its new communication strategy inten- ded to young men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean. This strategy aims to raise awareness among youngsters promoting social change towards equality between men and women, emphasizing the responsibility young men have to end the violence against women. “The Brave is not Violent” will be implemented in different countries of the region, led by the UN Country Teams and will comprise regional activities and initiatives. This will favor changes in attitudes of the Latin America and Caribbean’s young men for building societies free of violence against women. Cuba has been the first country to implement the campaign, where UN and the Ibero-American and African Masculinity Network (RIAM ) have been in charge of carrying out the actions. Read more... UNiTE Latin American Youth Network attended the Dominican Republic Model United Nations Conference The UNiTE Latin American Youth Network attended the Dominican Republic Model United Nations Conference in New York (NYDRMUN 2013) to present their work and activities. To raise awareness and to show the work that the youngsters have been carrying out, last 22 nd of March the UNiTE’s Youth Network for Latin America and the Caribbean presented the campaign that focused on promoting prevention and awareness actions to eradicate violence against women. Academia Network Consulting joins the UNiTE Cam- paign Academia Network Consulting (ACN), joins the UNiTE Campaign. This company that has been dedicated for several years to network marketing is now committed to continue publishing the monthly elec- tronic gazette for the Orange Day, where the UNiTE Campaign is pro- moted and issues addressing masculinity are including where they claim “The orange day is also a men’s issue”. April’s Orange Day dedicated to “Safe Places for Women and Girls " This year we will be using our Orange Day actions to highlight recommendations from the agreed conclusions of the 57 th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and in the framework of safe work spaces/places for women and girls. We will start this month by highlighting “Safe Places for Women and Girls ". Read more… Young commitment for Gender non-violence in Cuba In Cuba, the participants in the 10 th Training Workshop for young promoters of sexual education personally commit to say NO to gender-based violence. The workshop, held between April 22 nd and 26 th is part of the joint work between CENESEX and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). For its launching, a video clip from the Cuban singer Rochy Ameneiro, from UNiTE’s Artist Network, was featured in the headquartes of Casa del Alba. l The spot “The Brave is not violent” was shown, produced as a result of the network work workshops and different advocacy actions; it includes declarations and images from singers David Blanco, Elaín Morales, Rochy Ameneiro, the pianist Rodrigo García and the former forward football player Leonel Duarte of the National Football Team. UNiTE Campaign launches “The Brave is not Violent” communication strategy intended to mobili-

The Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE, launched, on April 25, its new communication strategy inten-

ded to young men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean. This strategy aims to raise awareness

In Cuba, the participants in the

10th Training Workshop for young

promoters of sexual education

personally commit to say NO to

gender-based violence. The

workshop, held between April 22nd

and 26th is part of the joint work

launching of the Anthology “Mujer y Poesía”, a compilation

It started with a concert of the Group Balance and the Jazz Band of the elementary school of music Manuel

Saumell. The following day, in UNDP’s offices, the same students played pieces of the national and internatio-

nal traditional music repertoire. Further, the prizes for the contest promoted in the Office for teenage relatives

of our colleagues were awarded, they participated with drawings and compositions on the negative impact of

violence and with positive messages to face this regrettable situation.
