A Mortal Flower 《凋谢的花》 covers the years from 1928 to 1938. This volume mainly tells of how Han Suyin from a driven young girl grew to a patriotic and outright youth. It started from when she was only eleven years old. In Beijing, at the age of twelve she knew clearly that she wanted to be a doctor. And at the early age of fourteen, she began to support herself. At the age of sixteen she went to Belgium to study medicine. During her stay in Belgium she actively participated in anti-Japanese lectures and some other related activities.
