Co-requisites for this unit
Nursing leadership and management of the chronically ill and community nursing Unit
Interprofessional Unit
Unit Code SV18-INTSEM-3SEM
Study commitment Students will on an average spend 40 hours per week undertaking the teaching and learning activities. This
includes face to face (classroom teaching, group work, simulated activities, self directed learning and
clinical practicum
Unit description
This unit aims to introduce the students to the complexities of caring for patients who experience acute
illness in the hospital. Students will have the opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge and skills
learned in this unit. Students are provided with learning opportunities to develop a systematic body of
nursing knowledge, develop clinical decision making skills specific to the assessment and nursing leadership
and management of people experiencing acute episodic illness in hospital. Students will experience the
professional and social contexts of nursing with diverse cultures in a global environment and focus learning
on the identifications of risk, the management of symptoms and the impact of hospitalization on patients’
functional abilities.
Unit learning environment
As this unit is part of an international semester where students come from different parts of the world, you
are required to participate in classroom learning, group work, planned social activities and clinical studies.
You learn from each other, with each other and about each other. Learning about your different cultures
occurs through knowledge from lectures, your questions and contributions to class discussions / simulated
session and problem bases learning with cases
MRSA Clearance
All overseas students must provide documentation of a negative test for MRSA before going in to
hospitals. This test can be done in your home country or immediately on arrival to your host country.
The international coordinator will assist you to get your sickness benefits cards and register with a family
practitioner
Danish students who have travelled overseas within the last 12 months are also required to provide
documentation for an MRSA clearance.
