Page 4: Unit 7 english presentation

PETER PAN & GORILLA, MY LOVE:• Both stories point to the inevitability of aging

• Peter and Hazel are foil characters, while both retain childlike attributes. Peter is a metaphor for a child refusing to grow up, Hazel is a child who wants to grow up but cannot (at the moment)

• Wendy represents reality and a world where children do grow up, thus Peter questions Wendy’s actions as Hazel questions adult’s as well as Hunca Bubba’s

• Both, at least at the end, discover, and are forced to cope with reality

FLIGHT PATTERNS & THE WALKING DEAD:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJRNHAJAcYg

FLIGHT PATTERNS & THE WALKING DEAD:

• Both pieces, to an extent, capture the essence of individual identity

• TWD contains people/stereotypes from all walks of life: a redneck, a nerdy Asian guy, country white girls, minority prisonmates, etc

• TWD completely dissolves all racial differences and tensions as anyone and everyone must unite or die, emphasizing growth as a family and a unit

• Flight Patterns has more implied themes and a different time period, but William and Fekadu are able to converse comfortably about their cultures

• Both Rick and William realize the importance of family and unity

THE YELLOW WALLPAPER & REPULSION

Both stories have a female protagonist that faces mental illness whom sequester themselves from outside society. Both are seemingly ignored by society as their mental illness is allowed to grow

Both stories are empathetic towards their characters. We see insightfully what is frightening about being human.

Jane is shun by society, while Carol is repulsed by society.

Jane is overbeared to be in confine space b/c of her restrictive husband John.

Carol is overbearded by her madness from the fear of sexuality to barricade herself in her apartment and kill anyone that comes near her.
