Official Unit 5 days in Pacing Guide (10 90-minute blocksExtended Unit 5 days, 4 90-minute blocksPacing Timeline and Extension (Unit 5)The unit covers only 10 ninety-minute blocks prescribed in the Physical Science Pacing Guide.Additional time/activities associated with the Wacky Race Car Project that is not in the pacing guide:180 minutes will be spent on race car assembly/finishing 90 minutes for the testing and evaluation of runnability or compatibility Extended time of four ninety-minute blocks are required and taken from the next Unit 6 Force and Energy

Acquisition of Materialsand LogisticsStudents must be informed of the undertaking by November 08, 2010.Approval Letter of the Project to be sent to school principal on week of November 01, 2010.Students will shoulder for the cost of the project (they must contribute $2 - $5 per meeting starting November 15, 2010 to come up with a $20 for the costs of the kits).

Acquisition of Materialsand Logistics (cont.)Pinewood car kits will be purchased by the 2nd week of December 2010.Basic Carpentry (shaping) Tools will be borrowed from Caddo Career and Technology Center and Request Letter will be sent to principal by week of November 15, 2010. Tools must be in Fair Park by 2nd week of December.

ApplicationsWacky Race Cars must comply to the specifications of the CPO Science Ramp.Races will be conducted in the following Scienctific Investigation Activities:Activity 2: Speed - Which Ramp is Fastest? Activity 3: Position, Speed and Time Graphs - What kind of motion happens when an object rolls down a hill? Activity 4: Friction: How does friction affect motion? Activity5: Force and Acceleration-What happens when force is applied to an object? Activity 6: Newtons Second Law-How does acceleration depend on force and mass?Students can modify or enhance their wacky race cars after every activity.Teacher will monitor improvements for the title of the best wacky race car, best driver and other special awards.
