Karl Marx was an important German philosopher and economist. He is most noted for his influence on the political climate ofEurope since the nineteenth century. His most famous work wasThe Communist Manifesto. Co-written with Friedrich Engels, TheCommunist Manifesto outlined Marx’s vision of how capitalismwould eventually destroy itself through injustices. The ideas inMarx’s philosophy fueled many radical efforts, most famously the

During this time, most nations in Europe weredeveloping consumer markets that manufactured goods likefurniture, fabrics, and household appliances. These goods could beefficiently produced in factories, but factory conditions of this erawere brutal. Workers suffered long hours and hazardous conditions.

These observations, joined with Marx’s own belief about thetrue nature of man,/ formed the ideology Marx believed that man was inherently inclinedto produce goods, calling him homo faber, a Latin phrasemeaning, “man the maker.” This implied that all men werenaturally compelled to create a product through their ownwork.

The factory system was the environment of early capitalism. As such, Marx argued factory work separated man spirituallyfrom his true nature. This would eventually give rise todissatisfaction in the lower class. Marx’s economic theoryplayed a key role in his worldview. For him, the capitalistsystem was flawed. Marx argued that the wealth created infactories did not return it to those responsible for thecreation of that wealth. Instead, the factory owners weregaining profit while putting no actual effort into the creationof the wealth. Marx believed that this was unjust.

The injustice of capitalism was the basis for the Marxist vision of the future.Marx predicted that the lower class—otherwise known as the proletariat—would continue to get poorer. Meanwhile, the upper classes that benefitedfrom the capitalist system—the bourgeoisie—would continue to get richer.Marx argued that this rift in the distribution of the wealth in the systemwould cause problems. The proletariat would then rise up and take controlof the means of the production. This spontaneous uprising would result ina “dictatorship of the proletariat.”At this time, the means of production would be taken and redistributedfairly among the population. Marx believed that uprisings would mostlikely include violence. He did not see the ruling class giving up means ofproduction peacefully. However, in countries with strong democraticstructures, Marx left the possibility of a peaceful change open.

The ideas of Marx fueled revolutionary movements, and it ismost commonly associated with the Russian revolution of1917. Revolutionaries struggled with Marx’s ideas, however.A strict reading of Marx suggested that enough injusticewould soon develop into an uprising. This left little room forthe “professional” revolutionary who wanted to speed up theprocess. Others believed that Marx’s ideas, while valuable, did not apply to countries like Russia, where economicprogress was slow.

Current economies suggest that not all of Marx’s predictionswere true. Many developed countries are not seeing abjectpoverty arise as capitalism grows. In spite of the possibleflaws in Marx’s predictions, his theory is still studied by manyscholars today. Marx’s main argument suggests thateconomic factors are the main cause for all culturalphenomena. This is a philosophy known as economicdeterminism.

PREPAs a result, many scholars have looked for economiccauses in cultural areas that are not normally associatedwith economics. For example, many theorists have lookedat art as an expression of economic conditions. Marxisttheory can also be used in the study of literature or theunderstanding of history, among other things. In spite ofits shortcomings, Marx’s philosophy remains important. Many see his work as essential in identifying oppressedpeople and how they are constructed through history.Regardless of how one regards his theories, the influenceof Marx’s thought on the western world is undeniable.as a result: 그 결과be associated with: 연관된다.in ~ing: ~하는 데 있어서압제받는 사람들과 그들이 역사를 통해 어떻게 구성되었는지를 정의하는 데 있어서regardless of +N: ~에 관계없이어떤 사람이 그의 이론을 어떻게 여기는가에관계없이undeniable:부인할 수 없는shortcoming: 단점Although there have been many scholars who looked for __________ in cultural area that are not normally _____________ economics, the influence of Marx’s thought on western world is _____________.
