Poetry (n.)-Words that are put together which may or may not make sense to the reader, but always signify something to somebody.

Three modern poets who fit my definition of poetry are Savannah Brown, Rudy Francisco, and Hayley Potter

These poets fit my definition of poetry because these poets put words together which arent significant to everyone, but to others their poems are meaningful.

Another poet whose poems fit my definition of poetry was born in 1809. He enlisted in the United States Army using the false name "Edgar A. Perry. When this poet was 26 years old he married his 13-year-old cousin. Her death is said to influence his poems, "Annabel Lee", "The Raven", or "Ligeia". This poet is

More on Edgar Allan PoeThe Raven, which is Poes most famous, was sold to The American Review for $9. The images of a gothic emo man, so familiar to us all were not how Edgar Allan Poe really looked. They were taken in the year of his death, when he was extremely ill.He was actually very athletic he was a champion long jumperThe ideas of Poe being an alcoholic and a drug addict came to us from Poes adversary, Rufus Griswold. In real life, Poes stern work principle permitted him slight time to drink. The minor dose of an opiate (that he took once for an illness) made him so ill that he swore never to consume it again.

He influenced literature Edgar Allan Poe caused several variations in the literary style of his time period. Poe not only influenced American literature, but he also had an impact on international literature. He is one of the first writers who developed the genre of both mystery, fiction, and horror.According to Yolanda Wilhelm, "Nearly every important American writer after Poe shows signs of influence, especially when working in the gothic mode or with grotesque humor. The French, Italians, and writers in Spanish and Portuguese in the Americas acknowledge and demonstrate their debts to Poe in technique and vision."

The Great Bad Writer- Kevin Jackson, a former writer at Prospect Magazine Self-indulgent, vulgar, borderline insaneEdgar Allan Poe was the most influential American author of the 19th century Poe was an unabashed* snob, both social and intellectualhe loved to pose as an aristocratso the thought of being a Halloween entertainer for the great unwashed rather than an immortal poet would have stung his would-be-noble heart. His corny image in modern America would have seemed a kind of damnation to the poor fellow.*unabashed- adj. not embarrassed, disconcerted, or ashamed.

Edgar Allan Poe As important as Edgar Allan Poe is, much of his poetry can seem to be very emo and depressing. With poems like The Sleeper and Alone, it makes the reader question the Poes mindset and his inability to give his poems a happy ending. He obsessed over the horrors of death and over the death of his wife and mother. His writings are full of psychological torments of bloodthirsty men.

Despite this criticism. The works of Poe intertwines with the mysterious aspects of life. That is a rare pleasure that comes with reading his works. It is a skill which he used in his works.Edgar Allan Poe is still important, and taught of in many schools across the globe because how influential and relevant his works are.

The journalist, for The Strand Magazine, J.W. Ocker wrote, We all get to have our own Poethe teenager dozing through English class, the intrepid traveler with the whole world beneath his shoe soles, the academic chasing her third degree, the pop culture fanatic, the writer looking for a voice, the morbidly inclined, the millionaire software prodigy, the circus clown escaping from the doldrums of work. Like an unsolvable mystery, we all get to have our own personal theory that can never be disproven. And because well never lose the Edgar Allan Poe in each of us, Edgar Allan Poe will always be relevant.

In conclusion Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic.Poe put words together which always signify something to somebody.Although there will always be criticisms made towards his works Edgar Allan Poe is still one of the most influential writers, and his writings have made major impacts in the literary field. Theres no telling what present life would be like if Edgar Allan Poe never existed to influence practically all types of writings. Can you imagine what music, television shows, books, and/or poems would be like if Poe never exised?
