Transversal Line: a line intersecting two parallel lines.

Page 6: Unit 2, Lesson 3 August 22 & 23, 2012. Wednesday…bellringer! Write the equation of the line perpendicular to 3x – 3y = 6 and through A(2, -1).

Let’s number these angles. Which angles are congruent?

Things to know and add to notes (or foldable—is it full yet??? )

• Vertical Angles Theorem: vertical angles are congruent.

• Corresponding Angles: Lie on the same side of the transversal and in corresponding positions

• Corresponding Angles Postulate: corresponding angles are congruent.

The following deal with parallel lines intersected by a transversal:

• Same-Side Interior Angles Postulate: same-side interior angles are supplementary.

• Alternate Interior Angle Theorem: alternate interior angles are congruent.

• Alternate Exterior Angles Theorem: alternate exterior angles are congruent.
