APP LOGOSFor the apps to look good and appeal to a wide range audience, the app should:

Be brightly coloured and unique so it stands out from the other app logos.

The app logo is the first impression f the app so it needs to fit in with the concept.

You should create your own design and not use photos.

A clear idea on what the game could be.

Simple backgrounds could make the overall app logo look more interesting.

Book Cover Analysis All these book covers are very similar to

each other. They all have the title in the same font and place. I think they used the bird on all three books because the Mockingjay is worn by the main character in the film. Also the bird is more than a logo, people recognise it. The first book has a black cover with a gold bird on it. The black cover gives a mysterious feeling, it would grab the buyers attention even if they didn’t know much about The Hunger Games. The second book uses warm colours and the gold logo from The Hunger Games cover has slightly changed on the Catching Fire cover. It doesn’t look like a symbol, it has more life to it. The MockingJay cover is made of cooler colours. The symbol has completely changed and evolved into a Mockingjay. The final cover shows freedom as the bird has its wings spread whilst the other two cover has a ring around them.

Market Segmentation

Our game is between casual and niche because its easy and straight forward to play. Its also a good game to whilst on the bus or wherever because when you quit the game you can come back to where you left off.

Snail TrailThis pie chart shows what sort of gamers Snail Trail could attract. I gave 55% to achievers because they are the players that will be determined to beat their high score whilst avoiding the salt balls being shot out of the cannon. The socialiser are 35% because it’s a game that most people will want to post their scores about on social networks but to improve this, we will have to add social network buttons on the ‘Game Over’ screen like Facebook, Twitter, etc. The killers got 10% as they’re more focused on getting the highest score and being at the top of the leaderboard. For us to give them a higher percentage, we would have to add a leaderboard to the game and make the much more harder to play.

AO2 PLANNING MY

PRODUCT

Page 15: Unit 17 graphic design

Client Brief My brief was to create and design three products which will help promote and sell

the game Snail Trail. It will also raise awareness to people that haven’t heard of it. The game I have made is called ‘Snail Trail’, it’s a game you can download for free of the app store and the play store. It’s a touch screen game and easy to play. This product is aimed at children. So when making the three products, I’ll have to make sure that its appropriate and something that’ll grab their attention. One of the first things I’ll have to do is put the main character on these products so that the audience are aware of what the game will be about.

Freelance RatesI done some research in freelance rates for graphic designers. I came across this

website.

http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2013/january/more-money

The question I came across a lot was ‘Are you earning the right amount?’ There was a survey that worked out the average national UK salaries for 2012. Below is a screenshot showing how much on average they earn.

Plan For My ProductsI plan to make three products that will promote my game. These three products will

be a banner, app logo and a t-shirt/jumper design.

The first product I plan to design will be the app logo. I’m making an app logo because the app logo is the first thing they’re going to see before they download the game. I will have to make a logo that’s easily recognised so whoever downloads it will know what it is. The second product I will create is a banner. It’ll be advertised on different websites. This will make it so people are aware when the game is out and they’ll get a better sense of what the characters are. The third product I’m going to create is going to be a t-shirt/jumper. I’m making this so that it’ll promote the game

Chosen Design

This is what I chose my final app design to be based on the feedback I received.

Page 29: Unit 17 graphic design

App Logo DesignsOnce I had chose my final design, I downloaded the app logo grid and put my design into Photoshop with the grid and changed it all to black and white.

Page 30: Unit 17 graphic design

For this design, I wanted the focal point to be the petals with ‘snail trail’ written in them. However I don’t think this worked very well when I followed the grid rules. I adjusted the leaves on the stem of the flower so that it fit in the outer border but I left the flowers in the same position as I thought it well. I then played around with the text. This was very difficult to change as I had to think about the centre of the grid being the focal point but also trying to even out the text so that it wasn’t crowded in the same area. I went with this however its not quite what I wanted it to look like.

Page 31: Unit 17 graphic design

For this design, I took out one of flowers and the stem. After my problem with the text in my other design, I focused more on the text and the inner circles of this grid. With this design I added a border but I think the border is too thick. I took the flower and centred it so the grey part was directly in the middle and played around with some petals so that was just out of the first square.I prefer my other design but this design works better with the grid and is simpler than the other design.

Page 32: Unit 17 graphic design

For this design, I changed what I didn’t like about the other two. Firstly, I decided that I want to keep my original design and made it fit in with the grid. I made the flower on the left slightly smaller and the one on the right slight bigger. I made sure that there were enough petals on both flowers to spell out ‘snail trail’ to fit in the two inner circles. I also made the border thinner.

Overall T-Shirt FeedbackMost of the feedback I received for my t-shirts were negative. The colours and design looked like it was aimed one type of audience and doesn’t appeal to both genders. To overcome this I thought that I should change the overall design and the shirt to a jumper to see if the feedback I receive from this will be more positive. The only thing I wont change about the design is the company logo which is on the back on the bottom right of each shirt.

Page 47: Unit 17 graphic design

Chosen Design

I chose this to be my final design because it fits in most with the theme of my game. From the feedback I received, they liked the grass effect and this jumper appeals to both genders.

Banners Based on Feedback

Chosen Banner & Feedback

I chose this to be my final design for a banner because its clear what the game is and doesn’t give much away so it’ll still get the attention the audience. This banner also fits the theme of the game, the grass effect and the fonts used.
