Unit 1: P1, M1, D1Why would you complete research if you were creating a new media product?

To find out if your target audience would buy your product To find out how much you could sell your product for To find out how to make your product more appealing to your target audience To find out how to market your product to your target audience

Find definitions of the 4 research methods and give your opinions as to advantages/disadvantages for each one.

Method Definition Advantage Disadvantage

Primary

Research conducted by you entirely

Firsthand opinions which can be interpreted easily

May suffer from lack of resources

Secondary

Research conducted by someone else which you might use

Easier to obtain and may be larger and more reliable

Unable to verify the validity of the results

Quantitative

Research that has numeric value i.e. 30% of people spend time listening to music for more than 3 hours every day

Gives specific quantities of things, making data easy to interpret

Less attuned to opinion

Qualitative

Research that involves giving a specific (often worded) answer. Sometimes the answers will be multiple choice and occasionally they will be given by subjects

Often ties into quantitative data, again making it easier to interpret

Relies heavily on human opinion and, because of this, can be convoluted

Unit 1: P1, M1, D1What research techniques (e.g. using the library, the internet, watching videos, reading info, recces, practises, plans etc) did you use when completing the assignments in year 10 for Unit 5 (Crime Drama and Music Videos) and Unit 7 (Festival Bags) ?The internet, reading info

What research methods (e.g. primary, secondary, qualitative, quantitative) did you use when completing the assignments in year 10 for Unit 5 (Crime Drama and Music Videos) and Unit 7 (Festival Bags) ?Mostly primary when researching either specific music videos and crime dramas and their tropes or when finding out who is playing at a certain festival this year.

If you didn’t use some of the methods in year 10, would use you them if you were to do your projects again? How and why would you do this?I may have used methods to determine a more crowd-pleasing outcome to my bag (primary qualitative research) and to have improvements on it

How did you collate, store and use the information when researching for your year 10 units? (e.g. did you book mark key websites? Keep a list of websites used? Print off or save any info for your folders?)Most of the research I did was on the festival, in which I simply searched up a brief history of the festival, as well as a list of the voted-best performances at my chosen festival, one of which made it into my presentation about said festival.
