These are NON - LIVING THINGS.

All living things share certain characteristics such as:
nutrition respiration excretion reproduction growth movement interaction
![Page 6: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
All living things are made up of tiny units called cells. The main parts of an animal cell are nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm and vacuoles.
In addition to these parts, plant cells present chloroplasts and cell wall.

• Cells are very small.• You need a microscope to
see most of them.• Different cells have different functions.
Bacteria are living things with just one cell.

3 vital functions
NUTRITION REPRODUCTION INTERACTION
All living things perform three vital functions:
![Page 9: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
NUTRITION is the process to obtain food. Plants and algae make their own food through photosynthesis The rest of organisms have to feed on
other living things.
![Page 10: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
REPRODUCTION allows living things to produce new organisms similar to them
SEXUAL ASEXUAL.
Reproduction can be:
![Page 11: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
INTERACTION: All living things interact with their environment and respond to stimuli.
![Page 12: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Living things can be classified into five groups called kingdoms1. Animal Kingdom2. Plant Kingdom 3. Fungus Kingdom4. Protist Kingdom5. Monera Kingdom
Organisms of the same kingdom share similarities.
Ex: bacteria
Ex: algae and amoeba
![Page 13: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Examples: bacteria
Most protist are found in waterEx: amoeba(unicellular)Ex: algae (unicelular or multicelular) can make their own food (photosynthesis)
Can be unicelular or multicelular. Can’t moveCan’t make own foodExamples: mushrooms, yeast, mould
![Page 14: Unit 1 living things year 5 study](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062522/58a469bf1a28abb8288b6a05/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
• They can be multicelular or unicelular.•They can’t move around.• They eat the remains of dead plants or animals.
We divide them into…
Mushrooms Yeast
Fungi Kingdom
Mould
