Academic AchievementAcademic success is a result of many components: a students hard work, parental involvement, a dedicated, caring faculty and coaching staff, and anurturing, supportive atmosphere. Our Uniquely Brother Rice philosophy
focuses on everyone, including fellow students, working together to achievescholastic success.
Studies show that students in a single-gender setting do better academically.
They study harder, concentrate more, and are more willing to participate inclassroom discussions. The dynamic learning environment at Brother Ricecreates a positive attitude that remains with our students for life.

Brother Rice commits itself to preparing each of our students for college and beyond. Our school offers three levels of curriculum tochallenge and inspire our young men: APEX/Honors, PREP, and FOCUS. Each students schedule is customized to challenge and strengthen
the skills of that student. In many cases a student will have a class schedule featuring an Honors course and a FOCUS course, as wellas PREP courses. Brother Rice has been recognized by the Educational Services for ACT as one of 382 schools across the country, andone of only 2 high schools in Chicago, that meet the ACTs exacting criteria for rigorous core courses. Brother Rice is clearly a leader
in preparing all high school students for postsecondary educationJon Erickson, Vice President of Educational Services for ACT.

Brother Rice graduates continue their education atsome of the most respected colleges and universities inthe country. Below is a partial list of those institutions:
it is said that a truly greatteacher doesnt simply teach, but lights the fire of learning
There is a difference between being accepted into college and being prepared for college. Our faculty believes thatcharacter, integrity, self-esteem, and a strong work ethic, along with a passion for learning, put our students far aheadof the crowd as they enter college. They provide counseling to our students in a number of ways.
Academic SupportOur faculty helps students developeffective study skills, organizational skills, and test-taking skills. They encourage
maximum effort from students toaccomplish individualized academicgoals. Our school provides tutoring and
other academic support services andassists students in their class selectionprocess. Counselors help students
register and prepare for standardizedtests and aid them in interpreting
their results.
Personal CounselingOur faculty helps students developappropriate life skills, includingcommunication, problem solving, conict resolution, stress management,
and coping skills. Counselors providecrisis counseling and refer students forpsychological testing and professional
therapy when necessary. It is importantto provide students with encouragement, support, and insight as they work through
any problems they may encounter.

facilities also include an Olympic-sized swimming
pool and a large, state-of-the-art weight room thatis open to all students after school.
