Each WHY Statement is unique and grounded in the stories told by individual teams – people who work together to deliver high quality service to students - their WHY is grounded in their contributions and impacts. So what is a WHY Statement? The WHY Statement does not simply inform the Rollout of the USM in an office; it underpins the day to day work of the team and is something they can use to motivate, inform and support their on-going development and delivery of high-quality services and supports. Unified Support Model Rollout The Journey to WHY While each WHY is unique, we found that each of the WHY Statements have something in common... They all emphasise the support that the teams offer students along their journey through UCD as they achieve their academic and personal potential. The WHY Statement discovery process has reinforced the service-focus within each team created a common language for how their commitment to supporting students can be discussed and understood established a lens through which further change can be positively viewed. 1 2 3 The WHY Statement workshops gave teams an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on their experiences of supporting students. They shared these experiences with their colleagues and with us, the Rollout Team. Based on these stories and experiences, we asked them to draw out their specific contributions in each story - what they or their colleagues did in that specific situation. Overall, we came away with a list of 212 unique contributions. Contributions We asked the teams to think about the impact their contributions made; how were the individuals in their stories lives different after their interaction with them, what could they go on to do or be as a result. This gave teams the opportunity to take another step back, putting their experiences and contributions in a broader context of the student experience. Impact 131 Unique impacts were discovered with the teams At the end of each workshop the teams combined their top contributions and impacts to draft their WHY Statement, their shared purpose and philosophy.
