    Setting up the Phone

    A. Choose the best locationWhen choosing a location for your new phone, here areyou should consider:

    The location should be close to both a phone jack and a cwhich is not connected to a switch).

    For maximum range:

    Keep the antenna freeof obstruction.

    B. Install the rechargeable battery pack into the handsetcharge for at least 15-20 hours before using!The handset is powered by a rechargeable battery pack. The battery rechargautomatically when the handset is placed in the base unit. To maximize the capacity of your battery pack, DO NOT plug the telephone cord into the baseand wall jack until the battery is fully charged.

    1) Press down on the handset battery case cover (use thefinger indention for a better grip) and slide the coverdownward to remove.

    2) Turn the battery pack so that the connector with the redand black wires is near the jack inside the batterycompartment. Match the connector's wire colors to thepolarity label in the battery compartment (the connectornotches fit into the grooves of the jack only one way).

    Push the battery pack connector into the jack until itclicks into place.

    3) Make sure you have a good connection by gently pulling onthe battery wires. If the connection is secure, the batteryjack will remain in place.

    4) Place the battery case cover back on the handset and slide

    Low battery alertWhen the battery pack is very low, the phone is prograin order to save power.

    Cleaning the battery charging contactsTo maintain a good charge, it is important to clean thecharging contacts on both the handset and the base

    unit once a month. Using water only, dampen a clothto clean the charging contacts. Then make sure to goback over the charging contacts with a dry clothbefore returning the handset to the base to charge.

    C. Connect the base unit1) Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack and to a

    standard 120V AC wall outlet.

    Connect the AC adapter to a continuous power supply(i.e., an outlet that is not controlled by a switch).

    2) Set the base on a desk or tabletop, and place thehandset in the base unit.Place the base unit close to the AC outlet so that

    you can unplug the AC adapter easily.

    3) Make sure that the charge LED illuminates.If the LED does not illuminate, check to see that theAC adapter is plugged in and the handset makesgood contact with the base charging contacts.

    After installing the battery pack in the handset,charge your handset for at least 15-20 hours beforeplugging into the phone line.

    4) Once the handset battery pack is fully charged,connect the telephone line cord to the TEL LINE jack

    Mounting the Base Unit on a WalStandard wall plate mounting

    This phone can be mounted on any standard wall plate

    1) Make the AC adapter and the telephone line cordthrough the hole on the wall mount adapter.

    2) Plug the AC adapter into the DC IN 9V jack.3) Plug the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE

    jack.4) Slide the wall mount adapter into the notches on

    the base.5) Plug the AC adapter into a standard 120V AC wall

    outlet. Hook the cord on the notch of the wall

    mount adapter.

    6) Plug the telephone line cord into the telephoneoutlet. Hook the cord on the notch of the wallmount adapter.

    7) Align the mounting slots on the base with the

    Direct wall mountingIf you don't have a standard wall plate, you can mount your phone directly wall. Before doing this, consider the following:

    Avoid electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that ccause a hazard when inserting screws into the wall.

    Setting Menu Options

    Entering the Menu

    1) In standby mode, press the MENU soft key.2) Use volume up/down to move the pointer to a desired

    main menu (DirectLink Mode, Room Monitor, HandsetSetup, Base Setup, Answ. Setup, Global Setup, andDeregister HS).

    3) Press the OKsoft key to select the desired main menu.To return to the previous screen, press the BACKsoftkey.

    4) Use volume up/down to select a desired submenu andthen press the OKsoft key to enter.

    5) In the submenu option, use volume up/down to select

    an item. Press the OKsoft key to confirm yourselection. For detailed instructions, see the followingsections for the desired submenu option. To return tothe previous screen, press the BACKsoft key.

    6) To exit the menu, press endon the handset or cid/exiton the base.

    DirectLink Mode (Handset only)

    In DirectLink mode, a pair of handsets can function as

    Room/Baby Monitor

    This feature allows you to monitor

    sounds in another room. Place the baseor a handset in the room you wish tomonitor; it will function as amicrophone. A second handset can beset to function as a remote speaker,allowing you to monitor sounds in the

    room.

    Using Room/Baby Monitor1) Enter the Room Monitor menu (see

    "Entering the Menu" on page 16).Listen to; appears.

    2) Select the handset or base you wantto monitor by using volume up/down.

    Distinctive Ringer Setup (Handset only)

    Distinctive Ringer allows you to assign a designated ring tone to a storedphonebook number. When a call is received and the Caller ID information mathe information in one of the phonebook memory locations, the phone usesdistinctive ring assigned to that particular Caller. You can assign distinctiveto multiple phonebook memory locations. Switching the setting to Distinctidisables distinctive ringing: all incoming calls will have a normal ring tone.Switching to Distinctive On activates all programmed distinctive ring memolocations.

    1) Enter the Handset Setup menu, and then the Distinct.Ring submenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).

    Setting the AutoTalk (Handset Only)

    AutoTalk allows you to answer the phone simply by rem

    cradle. You do not have to press any buttons to answe

    Setting the True Banner (Handset only)

    True Banner lets you customize the name your handset displays.

    The name will be displayed on the LCD screen during Standby Mode, IntercoIntercom Hold, Room Monitor and Copy Phonebook operation. The banner nabe displayed on the receiving handset as well.

    1) Enter the Handset Setup menu, and then the Bannersubmenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).

    2) Use the number keypad (0-9), */tone/, or theDELETE soft key to enter or edit the name.3) Press the OKsoft key. You will hear a confirmation

    tone.

    Selecting a Language

    Language selects which language the menu display will use. Choose from EnFrench, or Spanish.

    Adjusting the LCD Contrast

    Contrast adjusts the handset LCD brightness. Choose o

    Setting the Animation Screen (Handset Only)

    The Animation Screen displays animation on the handset LCD (see page 7).

    Setting the Ring Time

    Ring Time allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before youanswering system plays the outgoing message. You can set the ring time to after two, four, or six rings. If you enable the Toll Saver (TS), the answering picks up after two rings if you have new messages and after four rings if thenone.

    1) Enter the Answ. Setup menu, and then the Ring Timesubmenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).

    2) Press volume up/down to select a Ring Time (TollSaver, 2 Times, 4 Times, or 6 Times).

    3) Press the OKsoft key. You will hear a confirmation tone.

    Setting the Record Time

    Record Time sets the duration for recording the incoming messages. You havrecord time options. The options "1 minute" or "4 minutes" set the durationrecording the incoming messages. "Announce only" answers the call but pre

    Setting the Message Alert On or Off

    Message Alert sounds an alert tone when you have an

    Setting the Call Screen

    Call screen allows you to listen to an incoming call before answering.

    Global Setup

    If you change one of the global settings, you change t

    Setting Day and Time

    Day & Time sets the day and time of your display.

    1) Enter the Global Setup menu, and then the Day & Timsubmenu option (see "Entering the Menu" onpage 16). Image is for the base.

    2) Press volume up/down to select the day of the weeand then the soft key.

    Setting CIDCW (Caller ID on Call Waiting)

    CIDCW sets the Caller ID on Call Waiting (CIDCW) displays the name and num

    an incoming call while you are on the line. Call Waiting Deluxe (CWDX) allowto handle call waiting calls in seven different ways.

    1) Enter the Global Setup menu, and then the CIDCWsubmenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).

    Setting the Area Code

    If you enter a 3-digit area code number in the "Area Code" option, your loc

    code does not appear in the Caller ID message. For calls received from outsidlocal area code, you will see a full 10-digit number.

    1) Enter the Global Setup menu, and then the Area Codesubmenu (see "Entering the Menu" on page 16).

    You can store names and numbers in your phones phonebook, search for naalphabetically, and dial phonebook entries with just a few key presses. You store up to 100 numbers in the base and up to 100 additional numbers in eregistered handset.

    The phone uses the same memory to store phonebook entries and Caller ID

    messages. If the shared memory is already full, the phone will not store anyphonebook entries. You will have to delete some of the Caller ID messages byou can store a new phonebook entry.
