DANIEL 10:1-21NIV Daniel 10:1 In the third year of Cyrus king ofPersia, a revelation was given to Daniel (who wascalled Belteshazzar). Its message was true and itconcerned a great war. The understanding of themessage came to him in a vision.2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks.

3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched mylips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weekswere over.4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was

standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris,5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed

in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his

    waist.

6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, hiseyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like thegleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like thesound of a multitude.7 I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those

who were with me did not see it, but such terroroverwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves.8 So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had

no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I washelpless.9 Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him,

I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground.10 A hand touched me and set me trembling on my

    hands and knees.(Dan 10:1-10 NIV)

11 He said, "Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, considercarefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up,for I have now been sent to you." And when he said this to

me, I stood up trembling.12 Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first

day that you set your mind to gain understanding and tohumble yourself before your God, your words were heard,

and I have come in response to them.13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted metwenty-one days . Then Michael, one of the chief princes ,came to help me, because I was detained there with the kingof Persia.14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your

people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet tocome."15 While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face

toward the ground and was speechless.

16 Then one who looked like a man 1 touched my lips, and I openedmy mouth and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me,"I am overcome with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I

feel very weak.17 How can I, your servant, talk with you, my lord? My strength is

gone and I can hardly breathe."18 Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me

strength.19 "Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed ," he said."Peace! Be strong now; be strong." When he spoke to me, I wasstrengthened and said, "Speak, my lord, since you have given mestrength."20 So he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will

return to fight against the prince of Persia , and when I go, theprince of Greece will come;21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth . (No

one supports me against them except Michael, your prince.(Daniel 10:16-21 NIV)

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, butagainst the rulers , against the authorities , against thepowers of this dark world and against the spiritualforces of evil in the heavenly realms .13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that

when the day of evil comes, you may be able to standyour ground, and after you have done everything ,

    WHEN WE PRAY WE WIN!

11 As long as Moses held up his hands , theIsraelites were winning , but whenever he loweredhis hands, the Amalekites were winning.12 When Moses ' hands grew tired, they took a

stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaronand Hur held his hands up--one on one side, oneon the other--so that his hands remained steadytill sunset .13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with

    the sword.(Exodus 17:11-13 NIV)

14 having canceled the charge of our legalindebtedness, which stood against us and

condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to thecross.15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities ,

3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war asthe world does.4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the

world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolishstrongholds .5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets

itself up against the knowledge of God , and we take captiveevery thought to make it obedient to Christ.6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience,

once your obedience is complete.(2Corinthians 10:3-6 NIV)

    TESTIMONIES

YWAM in Argentina Of course, spiritual warfare is not new. But the way territorial

spirits are being confronted seems to be new. For example,in Cordoba, Argentina, 200 Youth With A Mission

missionaries gathered from around the world to tell fans atthe World Cup (soccer playoffs) about Jesus. But no one

seemed to be listening to their good news. Their evangelismefforts were listless and powerless; their Spanish tractswere ignored.

  • 8/11/2019 Understanding Spiritual Warfare - Daniel 10

    24/28

The missionaries decided to devote a day to prayer andfasting . In that meeting God revealed that Satan was not only

busy with individuals, but that he had immersed himselfdeeply into the culture of the territory especially in the formof pride . Cordoba was very sophisticated, fashion-conscious,

and materialistic, and the people clung to their values of

position, possessions, and appearance. The missionariesdiscerned that the only way this "territorial spirit" manifesting

itself in pride would be overcome was by humility .

So they scattered themselves throughoutthe central mall shopping area and got

down on their knees with their foreheads to

the cobblestones in full view of passers-byand prayed for Jesus to be revealed to thecity.

    26/28

A breakthrough came immediately. Large curious crowdsgathered to watch and listen. People took the tracts

eagerly and even asked to have them autographed by themissionaries. John Dawson preached at the Plaza of St.Martin, and people in the crowd dropped to their knees

repenting of their sins . His interpretation of whathappened was that "the intimidation of the enemy was

    broken along with our pride."

    27/28

In other words, the way many are doing spiritual warfare

today is by moving into an area, seeking to discernsupernaturally the spirit that Satan has assigned to oppress

and blind and control the area, and then specifically servingnotice on that spirit that Jesus Christ is triumphant in thisplace and breaking its spiritual hold on the region. S. D.

Gordon said 90 years ago, " Intercession is winning thevictory over the chief , and service is taking the field afterthe chief is driven off ." That's the strategy that many seemto be applying today with a direct focus on territorial spirits.
