Morgan Becker, Marketing + Finance graduate
Morgan recently graduated from Murdoch with a degree in Marketing and Finance. She took advantage of every opportunity that came her way and even studied entrepreneurship in California, just south of Silicon Valley, through Murdoch’s exchange program.
Studying abroad in California was awesome. I had great teachers and learnt a lot about the intricacies of getting a start-up business off the ground. One of the best parts was meeting incredible like-minded people from all over the world. We worked together to come up with new innovative business models, while being mentored every step of the way.
Following her exchange, Morgan entered the Alpha Innovation Contest where she pitched her idea Mirror Mirror – an exclusively fashion related Instagram-style app. Morgan came second overall, winning $5,000.
I was really blown away by the calibre of entries, and it made me feel proud to have been placed second! Being amongst some crazy technical innovations being pitched - I think my strength was in my business model and having a marketing and finance background from my Murdoch degrees helped me in this aspect. I currently have some investor interest and I will definitely pursue Mirror Mirror to see where that will take me.

Cassandra Power, Theatre and Drama + Screen Production student
Every area in theatre interested me, so choosing my course was easy. My second major is screen production, and I chose screen because I wanted to understand what goes on behind the film. Because I want to be a screen actor, I believe it is important to understand all aspects of your craft before you can do it justice. Murdoch offered courses on all aspects of theatre screen, with the option of industry experience. Because of Murdoch networking, I am involved with directors from The Blue Room Theatre and have been on multiple film shoots.
After I have completed this study, I am hoping to come back to Murdoch and complete a degree in Environmental Science. That way I can merge my degrees and make theatre that addresses environmental issues. I want my theatre to be informed and be the voice of science in a way that people can relate to.

• Showcase your creative work through local, national and even global competitions. Our students have had their writing published and won film awards that have landed them jobs with global film and music producers.

• Study units at our partner universities across the globe through our Study Abroad and Exchange program.

Tom Wheeler, Environmental Engineering student Studying at Murdoch isn’t just theory based, you are provided with opportunities to have
real life practical experiences that you can learn so much from.
Recently I returned from a six-month internship in Indonesia, where I worked with a non-ministry renewable energy organisation to provide a sustainable source of water to some of the most vulnerable people in the world. I won the Australian Water Association West Australian Student Water Prize for this.
I have also worked with Moerk Water Solutions in supplying water to the Indo/Pacific regions and am currently working for Josh Byrne & Associates, focusing on Water Sensitive Urban Design principles for the transition of Perth to a water sensitive city.
When I complete my studies, I hope to work both locally and internationally on sustainable water treatment operations. I would like to implement what I have learnt to help mitigate climate change and make a significant difference to some of the most vulnerable people in the world, by supplying them with a sustainable water supply.

During the third year of her degree, Lucy was selected as a New Colombo Plan scholarship recipient. The experience saw her spend two months in India, where she navigated her way through Mumbai’s slums and brothels on behalf of a NGO to help increase health awareness, education, alternative employment and empowerment.
Since joining the Murdoch community I have been amazed by how many practical learning experiences have been offered to me. In addition to my internship in Mumbai, I’ve been lucky enough to intern at the Evidence Based Policing Unit of the WA Police and I’ve been on exchange to the US where I explored the criminal justice system in a whole new context.
I spent six months at San Diego State University and I did work experience at various juvenile detention facilities across San Diego, including at East Mesa, a maximum security facility for boys and girls near the Mexican border. It was definitely a ‘light bulb moment’ when I was working with the kids in prison. I realised I really enjoy working with them and it’s something I’m passionate about, particularly vulnerable kids who are incarcerated or in detention centres.
Murdoch’s the place where you get that community vibe and you’re not just a number. It’s really important because I wouldn’t have been able to do the things I’ve done without this level of support and flexibility.

Jayde Greig, Early Childhood and Primary Teaching graduateAs part of her studies, Jayde travelled to Kunming, China, to experience a teaching placement at Beanstalk International Bilingual School.
My teaching practicum turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. The teaching staff at the school went over and above to make us all feel welcome. It was a surreal experience implementing play-based learning in early childhood, while at the same time having a teacher translating in Chinese. Through this experience I formed professional networks with teachers which enabled me to return to China for a further two months. I will forever be grateful to the New Colombo Plan and Murdoch University for granting me this incredible opportunity.

Ashlea Silcock, Business Information Systems student
At the beginning of my studies I never would have imagined that I would pursue a career in technology. Realizing that the world we live in is constantly shaped by technology resonated with me to the point of chasing a degree in a field I knew nothing about. It was terrifying, exciting and the best decision I have ever made.
The fact that I can take my studies in Australia and move around the world with these skills is invaluable. I plan to use my studies to help with the current problems faced by digital disruption. As technology is changing the world we work and operate in, I hope to be a part of the solution to ensure that organisations flourish with technology rather than be hindered by it.
Early in 2019, I started a graduate program with Ernst & Young. After interning with this organisation over the summer, I am excited to have joined their technology team full-time.

Pathways to Murdoch University
There are a number of admission pathways into an undergraduate degree at Murdoch that take into account your previous education, training and experience.
All undergraduate courses have an essential minimum English proficiency requirement, with Law, Nursing, Veterinary Science and Education courses having higher minimum requirements. You can demonstrate English proficiency by:
• Achieving a scaled mark of 50 or higher in ATAR English, Literature or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).
• Sitting an English proficiency test, such as the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). TISC may invite you to sit the written component of the STAT if you are under 20 years of age and needing to demonstrate English Language Competency.
• Successfully completing a university preparation course, English language course (academic) or study at tertiary level.
Some courses have specific course requirements that need to be met in order to be offered a place or to successfully complete the course. To find out the specific requirements for your course visit murdoch.edu.au/courses
Applicants with recent secondary education
Our entry requirements for those who completed secondary education are a WA Certificate of Education, a pass in an ATAR English subject and a selection rank of at least 70, with some courses requiring a higher selection rank. But if you didn’t achieve a pass in English or a selection rank high enough for your course, or you didn’t study an ATAR pathway at all, don’t worry – there are still ways to study at Murdoch.
Selection rank pathwayWith the exception of Nursing and Veterinary Science, undergraduate courses at Murdoch have an admission pathway based on a minimum selection rank required for consideration. Your selection rank will include your ATAR plus any eligible Murdoch RISE Selection Rank adjustments.
Selection rank adjustments – Murdoch RISEMurdoch RISE is a selection rank adjustment aimed at supporting access to university for students from regional, low socio-economic, or Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds. It can help you get into your preferred course by increasing your Murdoch selection rank by 10 points, up to a maximum of 90.
To be eligible for Murdoch RISE, you must have completed secondary education in Western Australia with an ATAR between 60 and 89.95 inclusive, and you must have achieved a scaled score of 50+ in ATAR English. You must also satisfy one of the following conditions:
• Achieved your ATAR at a high school on our RISE list: murdoch.edu.au/RISEschools
• Have a permanent home address when completing Year 12 at a postcode on our RISE postcodes list: murdoch.edu.au/RISEpostcodes
• Have indicated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent by declaring status through your TISC application or on the Indigenous indicator when applying directly.
There’s no need to register for Murdoch RISE. If you’re eligible, the adjustment factor is automatically added to your raw ATAR score when you apply.
Other admission optionsCreative Portfolio
Our Creative Portfolio entry allows you to submit a portfolio of work to gain entry into a number of Bachelor of Arts, Creative Media and Communication majors, including English and Creative Writing, Games Art and Design, Graphic Design, Journalism, Photography, Screen Production, Sound, Strategic Communication, and Theatre and Drama.
To be eligible for this admission option, you'll also need to have achieved a scaled score of 50+ in ATAR English, or have successfully completed the written component of the STAT, with a score of 140 or higher.
Law Start
If you have excelled at school in one or more ATAR subject, with a strong focus on essay writing and communication skills, you could apply for the Bachelor of Laws by using this pathway. You will need to demonstrate your aptitude to study Law by participating in a workshop and completing a written assessment.
Extenuating circumstances
We understand that your pathway to university may not be a smooth one. If your education has been compromised by genuine hardship, which has meant you’ve missed out on qualifying for an undergraduate course, we’ll take your circumstances into account.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
To qualify for your chosen degree, you will need to achieve English Language Competency and the minimum IB score required for your course. At Murdoch, most courses require an IB English score of 3 or more in Higher Level or 4 or more in Standard Level. The minimum IB score for a majority of courses is 24. However, a score of 27 is required for Engineering and 33 for Law. Veterinary Science does not have a guaranteed IB score for entry as there are limited places available. The minimum IB score that would be considered is 38.
Interstate study
If you have completed secondary education outside of Western Australia, you still need to meet the same entry requirements as Western Australian students. ATARs are equivalent from every state except Queensland. Applicants from Queensland can have their Overall Position (OP) converted to an ATAR.
