Dear Participants,

I am proud to welcome you once again to the International Renewable Energy Event (iSEE). In 2020, we will build on the fantastic momentum developed in 2019: where we aimed to ‘Foster Bahrain’s Sustainable Future’ to work towards a brighter future.

The Kingdom of Bahrain having worked since 2016 on the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) and National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP), have made great strides towards this brighter more sustainable future. Today, we are calling together experts in the field of sustainable energy to meet and engage with all beneficiaries of the brighter future we are working towards – our stakeholders: Students, the youth our future decision makers of today, policy writers and business owners and members of the general

public interested in these important matters. This event will once again bring together these experts and under a clear objective to deliver their experience and thoughts to those who must work together to ensure that the targets are met.

This year, by building on the success of the inaugural iSEE event in April 2019, we renew our commitment to the vision of a sustainable future. On this important occasion I congratulate you on becoming part of the iSEE event’s growing history in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) is confident that the iSEE event will result in important projects both in the GCC region and globally, all for a cleaner future of energy. The professionals, technical experts, industry leaders and stakeholders we brought together in 2019 all sought to lead the way in designing our energy future – now we aim to follow up on their design, assess the outcomes of relationships developed at the last event and learn from the latest developments in the field. The event will once again highlight Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency initiatives, policies, technologies and financial mechanisms that address the key sustainability roadblocks and the responses of the experts to the issues highlighted during the last event.

It’s my privilege to welcome you and invite you all to join the 2nd Annual International Sustainable Energy Event (iSEE) 2020: ‘Sustainability for a Brighter Future’. This event will be held in Manama, the capital city of the Kingdom of Bahrain, during the period 13-15 April 2020.

success and the passion and enthusiasm shown by all the participants towards a sustainable world has led the Organizing Committee to decide to hold the event on annual basis. The event is organized by the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain and Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE).

Sustainability is used in the broad sense – stressing on the management of precious natural resources such as water and fossil fuels, renewable energy technologies, prudent innovation, and incorporates ethical values and social responsibility.

In line with the United Nations 17 development goals, the event will cover both the Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) initiatives: Policies, Technologies, Financing and Sustainability in the international, regional and local development context.

The program consists of presentations and discussions among the participants and a large exhibition floor, 2480 sqm, is made available to showcase state of the art technology, innovation and development in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Sectors. It will provide

an excellent opportunity for those interested to learn of the latest innovations and developments, as well as providing a business networking platform. Our aim is to create a forum for the exchange of ideas and to spread knowledge on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency policies, technologies and financial mechanisms among professionals, experts and developers, and to create avenues towards improvements in addressing sustainability.

I extend a warm welcome yet again and invite you to experience Bahrain’s hospitality and friendliness which will be extended to all delegates and accompanying persons. KEY TOPICS

The three thematic topics are:

· Accelerating Renewable Energy from ‘Alternative’ to ‘Mainstream’; · Driving Energy Efficiency from ‘Fringe’ to ‘Core’; · Financing Sustainability from ‘Board’ to ‘Bank’.

It is envisioned that these three topics cover the core pillars of “Sustainability for a Brighter Future” and are relevant to every global citizen. Each session highlights innovations in policies, strategies, technologies and financial instruments to showcase the approaches and concerted efforts being undertaken while implementing sustainable energy values across households, commercial establishments and industrial facilities across the world to improve the sustainability of our daily lives.

This year, the theme of iSEE 2020 is “Sustainability for a Brighter Future”.

As the iSEE 2020 unfolds, participants will witness ahigh-level panel discussion followed by sessions in the thematic topics during the main forum.

iSEE 2020 will have sessions on three sectoral-focussed thematic topics in support of the main theme “Sustainability for a Brighter Future”.

Accelerating Renewable Energy from ‘Alternative’ to ‘Mainstream’

Accelerating Renewable Energy (RE) from ‘alternative’ to ‘mainstream’ topic will discuss the effect the growth of RE in the global power sector has on government policy and regulatory design, innovation and business models, sustainable urban energy solutions, energy storage, green mobility, and the future electric grid. Furthermore, innovative approaches will be explored in building partnerships to rationalise and connect clean energy to households, citizens and in our daily operations.

Driving Energy Efficiency from ‘Fringe’ to ‘Core’

Countries working towards meeting international, regional and national commitments towards reduction in carbon emissions, diversification of their economies and an increase in their populations standard of living have highlighted energy efficiency as a key opportunity to achieve all of these goals. This topic delves into the concepts such as district energy (cooling/heating) to retrofit upgrades and behavioural adjustments. A concerted effort is required in order to bring energy efficiency practices and projects from the fringes of our daily lives towards the core of each citizen’s, household’s, and organisation’s operations.

Financing Sustainability from ‘Board’ to ‘Bank’

The availability of finance is a crucial part of the puzzle for the successful implementation of sustainable energy projects. These innovative endeavors in the region need to address the learning curve of the financial sector to ensure they are comfortable with these “new” technologies. This topic explores the business models, and technology-specific risk and mitigation strategies associated with these projects.

Submitting an Abstract

The abstracts must be short, concise and to the point with a maximum upto 1 page (500 words). It should not contain a lot of background information and general theory. The abstracts should highlight innovations, concrete outcomes and achievements. In addition, the abstract should explain why and how the presentation will add value to the iSEE 2020 and how the delegates/participants attending iSEE 2020 benefit from it. The abstract should highlight what lessons are learnt, by whom and where it took place. It should also explain who can benefit from learning about the practice or examples provided i.e. the target audience. Furthermore, it should present suggestions for expanding, adapting, scaling-up, or accelerating this example.

The final deadline for submission of abstracts is Saturday, 15th February 2020 at Midnight, Bahrain Standard Time(+3 GMT) to info@isee.bh.

A technical exhibition will be held in conjunction with the technical sessions within the conference venue. The exhibition is intended to provide an opportunity for equipment, materials and service providers to display and demonstrate their products and services related to Sustainable Energy. Interested organizations are encouraged to participate by sponsoring the event and/or by taking part in the exhibition (see the exhibition form).

The exhibition stands are 3m wide 2m deep and 2.4m height. Stand fittings will consist of a system stand, fascia board in English, one electrical power point and sufficient tables and chairs.
